About the Internship

The Electrical Engineering design group provides engineering design services and prepares preliminary and final documents for innovative planning, design, construction and operation of the most critical electrical and electronics assets within the Port Authority facilities. The electrical engineering group is part of a multi-discipline group of engineers and other design professionals that form the Engineering Department of the Agency.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical investigations and design calculations.
  • Prepare
    • Contract drawings using AutoCAD/Revit MEP and technical specifications.
    • Construction cost estimates.
    • Design criteria, budgets and schedules.
  • Assist with the review and approval of contractor submittals for ongoing electrical construction projects.
  • Become familiar with the application of latest electrical codes and standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment at a college/university through Summer 2025 and into the Fall 2025 semester
  • Major in Electrical Engineering

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to analyze problems and formulate solutions.
  • Familiarity in the utilization of AutoCAD software in preparing drawings.
  • Proficient in the use of software applications, such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working environment.
  • Exhibit positive attitude of taking independent initiatives, creative problem-solving, eagerness to learn, while remaining dedicated to teamwork.
  • Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills will be critical for successful completion of tasks.

Internship Details

  • The start date will be Thursday, May 29, 2025
  • The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 22, 2025
  • This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
  • The format is expected to be hybrid

Compensation & Benefits

  • The hourly rate range is $17.63 to $27.21 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
