About the Role:
The Office of the Chief Health & Safety Officer (OCHSO) plays a vital role in furthering the mission of the Port Authority by ensuring the workplace meets all occupational health and safety legal expectations and actively supports the highest quality occupational health and safety programs to ensure the safe movement of the Port Authority's customers, partners, employees, and stakeholders every day. Agency Safety Management, within the OCHSO, maintains and develops safety, fire protection, occupational health, and public health programs and policies for the PANYNJ.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Food Safety Supervisor, the selected candidate will be responsible for:

- Inspecting food establishments located on PANYNJ properties and applying current public health codes and industry practices to enhance food service operations;
- Verifying the existence of operating permits and training certificates and evaluating the storage, handling, preparation, and delivery on premises for cleanliness regularly;
- Reviewing architectural drawings of new food establishments and writing, documenting, and delivering comments based on code requirements within the required timeframe
- Completing Routine, Follow-up, Special Investigations, Preliminary Construction, Final Construction, Pre-Operational, and Limited Inspections; will complete the required inspection reports within the required timeframe and provide follow-up as necessary
- Investigate food-borne and public health complaints; conduct food-borne illness investigations and Integrated Pest Management inspections;
This position requires travel to all PANYNJ facilities and availability to respond to emergencies on a rolling basis 24/7/365
Qualifications:
Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:
- Bachelor's Degree in public, environmental, occupational health or a health-related field from an accredited college or university;
- Minimum of 4 years experience performing environmental and public health inspections;
- Experience with food safety and public health;
- Familiarity with NYC, NY State & NJ State public health regulations;
- Demonstrated experience conducting comprehensive inspections and documenting findings of the inspections in written reports;
- Applicants must possess a valid driver's license;
- The successful candidate will be subject to a comprehensive background check and must pass a fingerprint-based 10-year criminal history record to obtain an airport Security Identification Display (SIDA) credential. The candidate must be able to maintain SIDA credentials throughout your employment in this position.
Desired:
Ideal candidates will present the following profile:
- NJ Licensed Registered Environmental Health Specialist, Sanitarian or Health Inspector Licenses or equivalent;
- NYS FSIO-I or FSIO-II Certification;
- NJDEP or NYSDEC Certified Pesticide Applicator License;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with internal staff at all levels and external officials from Public Health Agencies;
- Ability to interpret analytical results and develop appropriate recommendations;
- Demonstrated experience in problem-solving and project management;
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, multitask and work independently
- Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
