About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Design Standards Unit, Quality Assurance Division, Engineering Department and under the direct supervision of the Assistant Manager, the role for a successful candidate will be a senior mechanical/plumbing engineer, responsible for reviewing mechanical/plumbing design documentation for tenant and capital projects at Port Authority facilities to compliance with applicable construction codes, Tenant Construction Review Manual (TCRM), and Port Authority technical standards.

Under the supervision of the Design Standards Unit Manager and the Assistant Manager, the selected candidate (Senior Mechanical/Plumbing Engineer) will be responsible for:

  • Downloading the electronic Tenant Alteration Application (TAA) and design audit (redevelopment capital work) submissions
  • Analyze and review mechanical/plumbing drawings, calculations, specifications, reports, and specifications for completeness with applicable mechanical/plumbing codes and the Tenant Construction Review Manual (TCRM), and Port Authority technical standards.
  • Coordinate the review comments from others technical disciplines
  • Prepare memoranda for transmitting comments to the Port Authority facilities
  • Supervise engineers in specific technical discipline
  • Meet and discuss non-compliance items with tenant's design consultants (AOR) for resolution

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Ten or more years of experience in mechanical/plumbing/energy design and code analysis.
  • Professional Engineer's license in State of New York and/or New Jersey
  • Familiarity with the building codes in the City of New York, the State of New York, and the State of New Jersey, and familiarity with other applicable construction codes, ASHRAE Standards, and ASME Standards.

Desired Qualifications

  • Proper understanding of mechanical/plumbing engineering disciplines related to building design and construction of transportation and related facilities
  • Demonstrate experience in working independently, and skills in problem solving and decision making.
  • Ability to guide technical staff performing engineering review for code compliance.
  • Proficiency and effectiveness in written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.
  • Self-motivated and experienced in working in a team environment.
  • Comprehensive computer skills, proficient in MS Suite, and ability & interest to learn various in-house and external software (Share Point, Trimble, Adobe Reader, etc.
