About the Role

The Aviation Department of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is currently seeking a Senior Airport Engineer to join the aviation planning team that will help transform The Port Authority's airports into world-class 21st Century airports. Reporting to the Airport Planning Manager within the Aviation Planning Division, the successful candidate will have a broad understanding in the various aviation planning disciplines and regulatory planning submission requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Coordination with internal PA stakeholders at each airport for readiness of candidate projects, managing the development of Airport Layout Plan (ALP) update packages and Exhibit 'A' Airport Property Inventory Maps updates as necessary; and oversee the approval process throughout review with FAA and PA stakeholders.
  • Preparation and delivery of a wide variety of airport planning studies and technical reports encompassing terminal, airside and support facilities components for all five (5) airports (JFK, EWR, LGA, TEB & SWF) in the Port Authority's airport system.
  • Planning deliverables including but not limited to airport elements deficiency identification, flight schedule analyses, facilities requirements, alternatives development, conceptual & functional plans, capacity & demand analyses, land use feasibility study, alternative evaluation process & recommendation, as well as capital plan formulations.
  • Preparation of internal and external stakeholder presentations and briefing materials.
  • Providing planning technical support to business development and airport operations related to FAA guidelines on land use, airport zoning, as well as PA's airport planning standards and other applicable planning code & criteria for both PA & tenant projects.
  • The applicant must be able to travel to all Port Authority airports (JFK, EWR, LGA, TEB & SWF), as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, aviation or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum Three (3) years' experience in airport planning or design to include the development of planning strategies, airport terminal and other supporting infrastructure needs analyses.
  • Experience working independently, setting priorities, coordinating activities, and balancing multiple concurrent projects and tasks.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, strong presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Advisory Circulars and other industry publications and standards as they relate to airport terminal and master planning, zoning, airport design, capacity & demand and state & local codes & industry design standards.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in architecture or engineering.
  • Experience preparing and delivering contracts, Requests for Proposal (RFP), and managing consultants.
  • Demonstrated ability to devise innovative solutions to airport planning problems, resolve conflicts independently & make sound decisions.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and world-class airport facilities planning and design.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, AviPlan, Revit, TAAM, VISSIM tools.
  • Registered Architect or Professional Engineer (PE) License in New York and/or New Jersey.
