About the Role:
Under direct supervision of the Facility Cafeteria Supervisor, Principal Facility Cafeteria Supervisor or Food Services Field Supervisor, the Food Service Worker II performs duties in the preparation and service of food at a Port Authority Cafeteria. Work is performed according to established procedures and methods. This position is responsible for duties involving the preparation and service of food at the facility location assigned or at other locations as directed by department management.
Responsibilities
- Preparation and service of food.
- Checks and participates in work to ensure that food is prepared in proper quantity, quality, appearance and by use of proper methods. Food preparation work includes preparing fruits and vegetables, salads, sandwiches, hot meats, vegetables, desserts, and hot & cold beverages. Food preparation also includes washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding fruits and vegetables.
- Maintains temperatures and chemical level as outlines by provided standards.
- Performs sales transactions in a timely fashion, enters all sales into cash register to ensure purchase are accurately recorded, make change, accept other acceptable forms of payments, issues receipts to customers, observes customers purchase in the cafe line and differentiates between standard options. Responsible for all assigned change funds and cash receipts ensuring that cash drawer follows overage and shortage standards. Ensure compliance with company service standards and inventory and cash control procedures.
- Prepare high-quality food items according to standardized recipe and instructions to meet production, delivery, service schedules and temperature/portion control standards.
- Stores food and supplies in designated areas and containers following standard wrapping, dating, food safety and rotation procedures, (dates, labels, rotates stock according to procedures as indicated by oldest product being utilized first) and according to National Restaurant Associate guidelines as indicated non-soilage of food.
- Estimates and lists food items needed.
- Assist with loading or unloading and delivering supplies and products.
- Replenish condiments, coffee, other beverages, and general supplies.
- Sets up tables prior to serving time and ensures proper settings.
- Take orders from customers and prepares items requiring short preparation.
- Complete orders from steam tables and serves customers at multiple stations.
- Ensures that orders are picked up at once, serviced quickly, quietly, and efficiently.
- Serves customers in an efficient and friendly manner following established steps of service and meeting outlined standards.
- Clean, sanitize and maintain all assigned work areas, stockroom, counters, food stations, food preparation equipment, serving equipment, dining room equipment, utensils, pots, pans, dishes, glasses to ensure sanitation standards including both manual washing and operating mechanical dishwashing machinery.
- Reports needed maintenance or repairs of equipment used.
- Assist in record keeping and reporting as required.
- Removes waste, trash, garbage and cleans containers used for this purpose.
- Maintain good working relationship with coworkers, customers, administration, and managers.
- Resolve customer concerns and reports relevant information and concerns to supervision.
- Performs job safely while maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
- Perform related work/duties as required by department management

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in preparation and service of food including cooking in industrial type cafeteria operation
- Stand continuously and work in hot and humid conditions. Ability to lift to 50 pounds.
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment
Selection Process
All qualified candidates will participate in an oral exam. The oral exam will measure a candidates' abilities in such areas as: Situational Judgment, Problem Sensitivity, Flexibility, Decision Making, Customer Service, Interpersonal Skills, and Oral Communication.
Note: The interview will also have a brief physical component that require candidates to demonstrate their ability to lift objects from the ground weighing up to 50 lbs.

Starting Annual Salary for Food Service Worker II position is $ $30,472.00 (subject to TWU collective bargaining agreement).
