About the Role

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's EWR Redevelopment department is currently seeking a motivated and experienced individual to assist in public outreach and community relations for this project. The individual will help support the community benefits and monitoring components for all Program components including:

  1. AirTrain Newark Replacement Program
  2. EWR Station Access Project (At Grade Public Airport Access and Ground Transportation Hub)
  3. EWR Vision Pan and New Terminal B Development
  4. Additional EWR Redevelopment projects that may arise

The EWR Redevelopment Community Engagement Representative will assist in the development and execution of full-scale community relations campaigns for EWR Redevelopment, with emphasis on local business opportunities, workforce development, and educational opportunities within the Aviation industry. The EWR Redevelopment Community Engagement Representative Specialist works through the Aviation department in conjunction with the Intergovernmental and Community Relations (GOCORNJ) department.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all community benefits programs with external stakeholders across the various EWR Redevelopment projects.
  • Provide in-person oversight of community benefits programs and events at partner venues.
  • Maintain the program calendar for all community engagement events and oversees program budget.
  • Maintain database of all interested persons and organizations participating in EWR AirTrain events.
  • With GOCORNJ and Aviation, coordinate stakeholder meetings and public information sessions when necessary.
  • Prepare content for materials, handouts, periodic updates, newsletters and displays for ongoing public involvement.
  • Maintain community benefits programs budgets and oversight of invoices and budget authorizations.
  • Monitor MBE, WBE, SDVOB, and LBE participation through the B2G system and tracking charts to maintain participation plan progress
  • Lead meetings with third party stakeholders and Contractors for oversight of program progress and coordination
  • Coordinate with public agencies on agency initiatives including the City of Newark, City of Elizabeth, NJDOT, NJT, Amtrak, Conrail, etc.
  • Provide content for the dedicated public outreach website and for the Redevelopment Program website.
  • Submit to GOCORNJ & Aviation department monthly metric summaries of public participation efforts.
  • Coordinate and supports the management of periodic job fairs in partnership with CAO, and other agency units, such as the Office of the Chief of Diversity and Inclusion Officer (OCDIO).
  • May go door to door in local communities to deliver information about Program activities or to solicit opinions on Program elements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in communications, political science or related field or equivalent experience
  • At least 3 years community or government relations experience..

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with public, transportation or aviation agencies and organizations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate activities across organization lines with diverse groups and external organizations.
  • Knowledge of NJ elected officials within the Port-district.
  • Knowledge of/experience with events planning and management.
