Visual Analytics Developer
The Group Benefits Business Intelligence (GBBI) team is seeking a talented professional with a proven track-record working in Tableau as well as next-generation analytical solutions such as ThoughtSpot utilizing Cloud data sources such as Snowflake as well as Oracle, SQL Server, Excel, and other on-prem data sources.
Our ideal candidate will leverage deep technical expertise and strong communication skills to support advanced analytics for Group Benefits customers in Actuarial, Underwriting, Product, Marketing, Sales, and Finance through intuitive dashboard visualizations and self-service BI solutions. They will create deliverables aligned with business strategies & priorities incorporating modern design aesthetics and corporate branding in accordance with best practices. Tableau evangelism and telling stories with data are core competencies.

This Visual Analytics Developer will be a data professional with demonstrated proficiency and passion for Tableau visualizations, a strong understanding of SQL and data warehouse structures, having a background in financial domains, with a customer-centric collaborative approach and demonstrated interest in emerging technologies within the Visual Analytics community. They will work both independently as well as within an Agile team framework to enable data-driven decision making based on intuitive actionable analytics.
This Visual Analytics Developer will be both a developer and Tableau administrator; seamlessly shifting from dashboard development to security, production releases, troubleshooting, code-reviews, teaching/mentoring, and continually raising Viz standards.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborates and works closely with stakeholders, product owner, and development team to design, develop, deploy, and support Tableau dashboards and ThoughtSpot implementations.
- Extract and manipulate data from various databases in Snowflake, Oracle, and SQL Server for use in Tableau dashboards, ThoughtSpot worksheets, or customer extracts.
- Participate in business discussions to support customer analysis performing analytical data discovery to provide value-added insight.
- Maintain and apply Tableau & ThoughtSpot security model to ensure that information is both available to our strategic customers and protected from unauthorized users.
- Prototype dashboard proof-of-concepts as well as providing frequent business demos as needed for customer feedback & requirements elicitation.
- Collaborates within Agile teams to support reporting & analytics
- Natural curiosity with a strong desire to learn, maintain, and apply knowledge of emerging Visual Analytic technologies, tools, methodology, and best practices
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills with ability to effectively communicate with senior management. Knowledge of effective communication strategies and how to impact and influence others.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years Tableau dashboard development experience. Tableau certification preferred.
- ThoughtSpot experience preferred, but not required.
- Experience required in at least two of the following platforms: Oracle, SQL Server, Excel, Snowflake.
- Data warehouse knowledge in financial/insurance domain preferred
- Self-motivated, strong sense of ownership/accountability, and results oriented with the ability to manage time and schedules effectively
- GB insurance industry experience a plus
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$87,600 - $131,400
