The A&H Underwriter will contribute to the success of the Accident & Health team by driving growth, profitability and retention while providing excellent service within established performance standards and priorities.

Experience:

  • Responsible for marketing, analyzing risk and underwriting all products for Accident & Health - Special Risk Participant Accident, Business Travel Accident, including Multi-National, and any future portfolio products.
  • Monitor product forms and rate filings to ensure a competitive offering.
  • Manage top and bottom line Accident & Health products results including achievement of growth and retention targets, expense controls and targeted combined ratios.
  • Reviews all new and renewal business submissions, evaluating account performance and assisting in development of profitable terms.
  • Develops negotiation strategies regarding new and renewal opportunities.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external business partners.
  • Provides product and underwriting direction, training and guidance to internal & external partners.
  • Identifies and targets new business opportunities and takes on account management responsibilities by building relationships with producers.
  • Responsible for handling assigned renewals in accordance with our underwriting guidelines and achieving targeted renewal retention.
  • Ensures adequate and regular monitoring and analysis of the portfolio performance and implements action plans for profit and/or growth as appropriate.
  • Regularly monitors the A&H insurance markets and our competitive position as well as market trends and identifying areas of opportunity for expansion of existing and introduction of new product offerings.
  • Ensures adherence to underwriting authority, processes, and compliance directives, underwriting file documentation requirements and service level agreements, accordingly per authority statements, compliance guidelines & standard operating procedures.
  • Ensures any/all underwriting audit recommendations are implemented based on the action plan developed.
  • Visits producer for effective management of existing relationships and building of new partnerships.
  • Work on various projects as assigned by Underwriting management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3 or more years experience with Accident & Health Insurance including underwriting, pricing, product & distribution.
  • Knowledge of underwriting and regulatory/compliance concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Must be well-organized, positive, energetic, self-motivated, and possesses strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven track record of achieving results that have a clear, positive, and direct impact on business performance.

Salary $88,480 - $156,360

This role will have a Remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$88,480 - $156,360

The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
