The Tech, Data, and Insights team within Commercial Lines Strategy and Innovation, is tasked with leveraging data analytics to enhance risk management and drive strategic decision-making. Using data from IoT programs like telematics, water sensors, and wearables, coupled with data obtained from risk engineering consultants through client surveys and ongoing service visits, our mission is to use technology, innovation, and data insights to control risk for our commercial customers.

The Senior Business Intelligence Developer/Data Analyst role will be instrumental in achieving this mission. This position will use the available data to create tools that help risk engineering consultants identify client risks and assist management in identifying and mitigating risk trends across the book of business. Additionally, this role will develop performance analytics tools to support senior leadership with workforce planning for risk services. The team engages with stakeholders to develop and maintain business intelligence solutions that provide actionable insights and support continuous improvement.
The Senior Business Intelligence Developer/Data Analyst role specializes in all stages of the data delivery process, from data discovery and curation to the development of holistic data products. The individual will work closely with a small team of experts focused on creating robust and scalable data solutions that align with organizational goals.
This individual is expected to have a broad set of skills in both business intelligence and data analytics. They should have experience working with a wide range of data formats, tools, and platforms, including Tableau, SQL, and Snowflake. The role requires strong collaboration skills to work effectively with stakeholders, Data Science, Data Engineering, and team members in a distributed environment.
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our locations(Hartford, CT, Charlotte, NC, Chicago, IL) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain business intelligence solutions using Tableau, Tableau Prep, or similar BI tools.
- Implement best practices for data architecture and dashboard design to ensure high-quality, scalable solutions.
- Lead the development of holistic data products, including data discovery, data curation, and semantic data model development.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and team members to develop and validate requirements, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Advocate for change, optimize processes, and support change initiatives impacting data product development.
- Contribute to organizational goals by building scalable data solutions, supporting continuous learning., and promoting data literacy.
- Present data and insights to senior leaders, effectively communicating complex information in a clear and actionable manner.
- Collaborate with teammates in a distributed team environment, providing expertise and solving problems cooperatively.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business or a data-heavy discipline (e.g., math, computer science, data analytics, physics).
- 5+ years of experience with Tableau, Tableau Prep, or similar BI tools.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
- Experience with Snowflake or similar platforms (e.g., Redshift, BigQuery, Azure Synapse).
- Strong understanding of data architecture and dashboard design best practices.
- Proven ability to elicit and document requirements from stakeholders.
- Experience integrating disparate data sets into cohesive tools.
- Experience working in an Agile environment.
- Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience with other BI tools and technologies.
- Knowledge of advanced data analytics and machine learning techniques.
- Familiarity with the insurance industry and risk engineering.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$92,800 - $139,200
