Hartford Group Benefits (HGB) is charged with delivering products and innovative analysis to capitalize on a shifting market to drive profitable growth and to product development. We are looking for an analytical individual with expertise in Group insurance products such as Group Term Life, Group Long Term Disability, Group Short Term Disability, and related insurance coverages, such as Supplemental Health, for employer groups to support pricing and analytics. The candidate will have the opportunity to influence cross-product strategic projects and initiatives as well as implement innovative solutions to grow the Hartford's Group Benefits book of business.
This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in the Hartford, CT office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Opportunities:
- Interact and collaborate with both actuaries and non-actuaries in a team-based environment.
- Exposure to all products offered in the Group Benefits insurance product suite.
- Deepen knowledge of sales processes (quoting, implementation, renewal, etc.) for all HGB products.
- Support and drive individual projects through implementation and monitoring.
- Present creative solutions to capitalize on growth opportunities that both maintain profitability and enhance customer experience.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Represent actuarial on cross-functional strategic projects.
- Develop/implement/coordinate pricing tools and rating/quoting system changes to support pricing accuracy and efficiency.
- Support strategic and innovative projects, such as FUSION, THPB, and other pricing projects.
- Own analysis of rating and quoting system data in support of data collection and process improvement projects.
- Act as a liaison between Actuarial and other teams, during project inception through implementation.
- Identify enhancements and lead efforts to improve rating methodologies, including supporting our rating/quoting systems and analytical capabilities (FUSION/THPB/Ratabase/ARE).
- Ensure connectivity between projects and our data needs.
- Work with predictive analytics to solve everyday business problems with opportunity to learn R and some advanced analytic techniques.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in an actuarial or related analytical function.
- Strong analytical skills, including strong Excel/ThoughtSpot skills.
- Experience assessing risk and knowledge of Group Benefits product pricing and rating techniques preferred.
- Database experience with R or other similar programming language a plus.
- Experience participating in cross-functional projects, influencing, and driving results for both actuarial and non-actuarial audiences.
- Effective written and verbal communication and general business management skills are imperative.
- Intellectual curiosity and strong desire to further one's knowledge of both the current and forward-looking Group Benefits landscape.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$93,040 - $139,560
