In a rapidly changing work, where the frequency and severity of claims are increasing across the business, a new role is being formed to leverage product, IoT and AI capabilities to create innovative new risk management solutions.
The Hartford is establishing a new role, Director of Solution Innovation, within our Property & Casualty Innovation Team. This role would report to the Head of Y-Risk Innovation Labs, and be responsible for the design, development, and piloting of risk mitigation and emerging risk solutions across a wide range of strategic business areas.

The Y-Risk Innovation Labs is an established team focused on identifying innovative new products and Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities meant to address emerging risks and opportunities, positioning The Hartford to profitably grow in a changing economy.
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office should maintain their current work arrangement with the expectation of coming into the office as business needs arise.
Responsibilities:
- Explore the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and insurance product/coverage capabilities to provide new risk mitigation and risk transfer solutions.
- Liaison with other innovation-focused teams (e.g., Risk Control Services, Tech/Data/Insights, Y-Risk) to ensure all innovation resources are being brought to bear on solution development.
- Work across P&C businesses to identify areas of need (claims frequency/severity, new market opportunities, etc.) where multi-faceted solutions could address those needs.
- Maintain connectivity with teams across The Hartford developing AI technologies, looking to leverage in-house capabilities to drive solution innovation and development.
- Coordinate with leaders focused on sustainability/resilience, mobility, robotics and other themes to ideate on multifaceted solutions that would position The Hartford to grow profitability in these emerging spaces.
- Work with Head of the Y-Risk Innovation Labs to clearly articulate and create awareness of our solution-focused approach, and educate underwriters, brokers, and other partners on the concept and execution.
- Partner with Enterprise Growth and Innovation to champion solutions which may require longer term investment and development.
- Responsible for early-stage concept development and launching well-structured new experiments including the learning plan, experiment design, customer value proposition, business sponsorship, KPI's, distribution strategy, etc.
- Act as IoT liaison with legal for IoT regulatory concerns (e.g., rebating, unfair discrimination, innovation filing/G&S endorsement relative to new or existing IoT programs)
Qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant experience recommended, including experience in risk mitigation, risk engineering, IoT technologies, and/or insurance product innovation. Research & development experience preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, MIS, or a related discipline desired. Advanced degree (e.g., Masters, PhD.) preferred.
- Able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
- Able to translate complex technical topics into business solutions and strategies as well as turn business requirements into technical solutions.
- Experience with leading project execution and driving change to core business processes.
- Exposure to Generative AI capabilities (and limitations) and use-cases, with a strong drive to keep up with the state of the art and help our team deploy scalable, maintainable machine learning & AI solutions.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$140,400 - $210,600
