This is an exciting opportunity,in Global Specialty IT for an experienced Technology Leader, with a strong background in Software Engineering and Application Management executing within the Agile operating model. This role will be responsible for leading a team of software engineers in ongoing enhancement and maintenance delivery for our Intake, UW and Service Value stream.

The role will leverage the candidates' skills in managing an ever-changing set of priorities, assisting with technical design and oversight while providing guidance to onshore and offshore resources on technical solutions leveraging your knowledge of the Insurance industry.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partner with Product Managers/Product Owners, IT Strategy, Solution Architects and Software Engineers to guide technical direction and implementation across multiple agile teams.
  • Promote a Software Engineering culture and build strong teams with knowledge spread across the groups.
  • Implement Software Engineering practices that foster code quality, fault tolerance, performance engineering, secure coding practices and quality automation. Enable engineers to shift quality left.
  • Plan, monitor and analyze key metrics for the day-to-day performance of the development teams to ensure efficient and timely completion of tasks.
  • Manage the recruitment and hiring of staff and contractors. Manage goals and performance levels for direct reports and coach and develop team members, providing learning and career growth opportunities. Manage vendor on/off shore talent to meet the same level of expectations as staff.
  • Assist with yearly planning, future project estimation and POC development.
  • Provide technical thought leadership, foster a team environment, and provide mentorship and coaching feedback to technical resources while assisting development teams.
  • Represent IT in discussions with the business before projects or initiatives are committed.
  • Understand the evolving Insurance product landscape, identify technologies for solving issues and drive adoption across the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 10 years of hands-on software engineering experience utilizing emerging technologies. Property and Casualty insurance Industry experience is required with extensive Policy Administration System (any) knowledge
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a technology leadership role.
  • Highly technical, Hands-on Agile experience as a Senior Software Engineer, Architect or Engineering Manager
  • Prior management/supervisory experience with IT personnel and onsite/offshore contractors.
  • Demonstrated leadership at the ART level aligning IT solutions to support business needs and strategy.
  • Strong knowledge of the Software Engineering discipline and design aspects
  • Expertise with the Microsoft .NET technology stack and modern software development approaches and architectures (microservices, APIs, containers) including use of G(AI) tools for development and automation efficiency
  • High-level knowledge of AWS services.
  • Experience with the complexities involved in integrating distributed systems solutions.
  • Requires excellent communication skills as well as seasoned judgment, tact and the ability to work effectively with client and other managerial personnel.
  • Demonstrates strong sense of urgency, ownership and operates in a collaborative manner.
  • Bachelor's degree or master's degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent work experience.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$166,560 - $249,840
