The Director Financial Analysis and Reporting (the Director) will join the high-performing Small Business Financial Planning and Analysis team. The Director will be a self-motivated problem solver who brings relevant financial experience, excellent communication skills, a business orientation, and intellectual curiosity to their work. The Director will build and grow effective working relationships in multiple functional areas at all levels of the organization adding value both as a partner to the business and as a member of this dynamic team. The Director will be based in our Hartford, CT, Home Office on a hybrid in-office basis.

Responsibilities:
- Impactful Analysis and Reporting: Conduct in-depth analysis of Small Business financial results, ensuring that reporting is accurate, timely, and provides valuable insights. Prepare monthly business reviews to highlight key findings and drive decision-making.
- Strategic Support: Serve as a financial advisor to business leaders, delivering comprehensive financial insights and analysis. Facilitate decision-making by conducting thorough cost-benefit evaluations on new products, deals, and growth opportunities.
- Financial Planning: Develop forward-looking financial outlooks and operating plans that align with and support the segment's operations and strategic goals.
- Collaborative Partner: Work closely with:
- Sales, Product, and Actuarial Teams: Lead cross-functional teams to develop complex financial analyses that support strategic initiatives.
- Agency Compensation: Evaluate performance-based commission accruals by monitoring performance and incorporating approved deals.
- Billing Operations: Assess the allowance for doubtful accounts, ensuring proper accounting and monitoring underlying trends.
- Continuous Improvement Champion: Drive enhancements in management reporting and forecasting, always seeking ways to improve.
- Relationship Builder: Cultivate strong working relationships across Small Business and the Finance organization, playing a key role in the development and execution of our strategy.
Qualifications:
- Significant finance and/or accounting experience, with familiarity of insurance accounting and reporting concepts/theories, including U.S. GAAP.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and critical thinking skills; self-motivated and intellectually curious.
- Ability to balance multiple competing priorities successfully.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and build strong working relationships at all levels of the company.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to navigate and influence across a matrixed environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with TM1 or multi-dimensional databases is a plus.
- Ability to learn quickly and assimilate to new technology applications.
- An undergraduate degree in finance or accounting is required; CPA or MBA is a plus.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$132,800 - $199,200
