Our Small Business Actuarial department is creating a new engineering team that will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our actuarial capabilities. This position is a key role within the actuarial team aligned to our $5 Billion Small Business organization with a focus on supporting profitable growth across product lines. You will work closely with Line of Business (LOB) actuarial, Actuarial Strategic Modeling (ASM), and Actuarial Information Services (AIS) teams to recommend and implement data pipelines, tools, and process to enhance and automate our analytical capabilities. This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office location (Hartford, CT; Chicago, IL; and Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to support actuarial analysis and reporting.
- Develop and implement new tools and processes to enhance and automate our data capabilities.
- Perform preliminary exploratory analysis to identify trends and insights that inform pricing strategies.
- Ensure data quality and integrity across various data sources and platforms.
- Continuously monitor and improve existing data processes to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with Line of Business (LOB) teams to understand their data needs and provide tailored solutions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
- 2+ years programming experience in a business setting
- Experience in Python and SQL
- Experience using GitHub for version control
- Demonstrated history of manipulating and extracting value from various data structures and databases
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams
- Interest in deeply learning & understanding the Insurance Business and Actuarial function
- Curious and passionate for R&D and innovation
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience with AWS or similar cloud computing platform is preferred
- Experience with Insurance data, especially with Pricing data processes, is a strong plus
- Exposure to Automation tools (Airflow, Cron, Autosys, etc.) is a plus
- Experience with agile software development is a plus
- Exposure to containerized computing (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.) is a plus
- Any AWS Cloud certification is a plus
- Experience with Linux-based file management desired
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$100,960 - $151,440
