Associate UX Designer

We are looking for a passionate Associate, UX Designer to help craft intuitive, engaging, and highly impactful digital experiences. As part of our Employee Benefits UX team, you will play a key role in executing designs that align with our brand, ensuring every interaction is as aesthetically compelling as it is empathetic and easy to navigate. This role requires more than just the ability to create interfaces; you will use critical thinking to simplify complex interactions, benefiting both customers and their employees. Our ideal candidate has mastered industry-standard design tools (FIGMA), possesses excellent visual and interaction design skills, and is passionate about delivering high-quality brand experiences that set new industry standards.

What You'll Do
As an Associate UX Designer on the Employee Benefits team, you will help create seamless, intuitive, and visually captivating digital experiences. Your work will support customers, employees, and benefits administrators by ensuring they can navigate their benefits with ease and confidence. You'll collaborate closely with senior designers, product managers, and developers to translate business needs and user insights into clear, functional, and compelling designs. This role demands a perfect blend of brand execution, strong visual design, and interaction design, ensuring that each touchpoint is both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional for users.
You will focus on enhancing your creative abilities by designing visually stunning and accessible interfaces, applying critical thinking to problem-solving in a highly regulated and structured industry, and mastering various design tools. Your contributions will include developing design system components, refining digital workflows, and helping shape the future of Employee Benefits experiences.
Responsibilities
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups that communicate design concepts effectively
- Develop and refine visual and interaction design skills to ensure seamless, intuitive, and accessible experiences
- Leverage critical thinking skills to analyze and simplify complex workflows in the Employee Benefits space
- Collaborate with UX researchers by developing interactive prototypes as well as integrate learnings and insights into design decisions
- Contribute to the design system, ensuring consistency and scalability across digital experiences
- Work closely with product managers, engineers, writers and senior designers to bring designs to life
- Explore and incorporate AI and automation tools to improve efficiency and expand creative possibilities
- Present design work in critiques, clearly articulating design rationale and iterating based on feedback
- Stay informed on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to continuously refine design craft
- Maintain quality, accuracy and always deliver on time
Qualifications:
- 1+ years of digital product design experience, insurance industry a plus
- Strong understanding of typography, layout, color theory, and interaction design principles
- Critical thinking skills and the ability to solve complex design challenges with clarity.
- Basic knowledge of user research, information architecture, and usability principles
- Familiarity with design systems and reusable component libraries
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively in a cross-functional team
- A willingness to iterate, take feedback, and refine designs in an agile environment
- Knowledge of accessibility best practices and how they impact UX is a plus
- Mastery of FIGMA design software, and competency with complimentary software
- A team player who thrives on collaboration

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$62,800 - $94,200
