Role Overview: The Assistant Director, Category Management for Legal Service will develop and execute sourcing strategies for Corporate Law and Claims Legal. This role collaborates closely with stakeholders across the organization and reports to the VP, Category Management, Professional Services.

The position is hybrid, with an expectation to work in the Hartford, CT office three days a week (primarily Tuesday through Thursday).
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as an advisor throughout the sourcing and contracting process.
- Drive cost reductions and optimize spend by leveraging demand and supply opportunities.
- Implement best practices within the category.
- Lead sourcing events and develop supplier negotiation strategies to maximize The Hartford's buying power and minimize risk.
- Bring thought leadership and experience with relevant vendors to deliver value to stakeholders.
- Lead complex negotiations working with legal, information protection, and risk management teams to draft and execute contracts.
- Enhance sourcing model maturity based on industry best practices and The Hartford's operating model.
- Utilize procurement technology to manage the end-to-end procurement lifecycle.
- Manage new and existing contracts, driving standards and best practices.
- Evaluate and introduce new suppliers with innovative, cost-cutting, or disruptive technologies.
- Aggressively manage category performance, adhering to internal savings goals and reviewing financial models.
Education/ Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a corporate a sourcing & procurement function with the responsibility for sourcing & negotiating agreements of varying complexity, scope, and value
- Experience with the Legal spend category
- Bachelor's degree in procurement, supply chain, business or related field or equivalent experience
- JD, Master's degree, certified purchasing manager preferred
Technical/ Functional Skills/ Qualifications
- Experience in leading strategic sourcing process as well as reviewing, analyzing, drafting and negotiating contract terms.
- Strong packaging and presentation skills with the ability to analyze and explain complex pricing models
- Strong understanding of legal concepts
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills with ability to communicate with peers and various levels of management
- Self-motivated with ability to work within agile team environment
- Creative, quality and results-driven work ethic
- Strong focus on customer engagement and service
- Clear understanding of the elements that contribute to contract quality, including business and legal protections and risk mitigation
- Strong planning, organization skills and organizational
- Possesses substantial applied knowledge based on experience in sourcing categories
- Able to apply in a broader context management theory/principles in planning, organizing and fully integrating work
- Contract-to-payment process experience
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$111,520 - $167,280
