Responsibilities:
To achieve our future profitability and growth goals, we need best-in-class pricing systems that combine technical accuracy, streamlined workflow, and single-source-of-truth data warehousing for our assumed reinsurance business. This role will support the consolidation of our current pricing framework and development of a data architecture that will provide the actuarial and underwriting teams with an efficient platform for data analysis. In addition, this role will support reinsurance pricing activities across our major product lines. The position reports directly to the Lead Actuary for Navigators Re.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop centralized model applications to support treaty pricing
- Partner with actuarial and underwriting colleagues to design enhancements to current pricing models
- Streamline model inputs and diagnostics
- Work with actuarial leadership to design a proper data architecture for efficient analysis of submission and pricing information
- Automate pricing and portfolio-level reporting to reduce manual calculations
- Ensure code follows best practices and is understandable
- Document model methods and calculations for transparency and ease of maintenance
- Provide surge support for treaty pricing, profitability analyses, and parameter updates
- Partner with business colleagues across multiple functions to ensure solutions fit into the overall Navigators Re application landscape
Qualifications:
- Strong technical, analytical and data skills
- Proficiency in programming, especially in VBA and R
- 2+ years of demonstrated experience in reinsurance or complex pricing, modeling or related actuarial function
- Recent ACAS preferred - candidates with actuarial experience not pursuing exams will be considered. This role can be filled as part of our robust actuarial student program for a qualified candidate meeting requirements for entry into the program
- Self-motivation, creativity, time-management, and project-management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to audiences of various levels and diverse backgrounds
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing priorities
- Process improvement mindset and skilled at developing efficiencies
- BA or BS degree, preferably in mathematics, actuarial science, statistics or related field of study
Location:
- This role is eligible for a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near our office locations in Hartford, Stamford, New York City, or Chicago will have the expectation of working in an office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$90,000 - $140,000
The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
