Job Description
The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) is seeking experienced and dedicated Trades Workers for the hospital campus in Jamaica Plain. In this position you will perform various hospital related tasks to assist skilled craftsmen in the performance of their duties in a variety of trades (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc.); perform routine trade-related maintenance and repair; maintain machinery, equipment, and tools; install glass; install and replace floor covering; and perform related work as required.
Please Note: 40 hours per week, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Days off are Saturday and Sunday.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

- Services and/or assists in servicing, replacing minor plumbing fixtures such as faucets, washers, flushometers, valves, etc.
- Maintains and makes routine repairs to electrically - powered equipment and appliances such as motors, pumps, lamps, fans, etc. according to instructions from journeyman and equipment service manuals; and performs other electrical work not requiring a licensed electrician such as replacing light bulbs, fuses as needed.
- Performs preventive maintenance and makes repairs to heating, ventilating, refrigerating and air conditioning equipment according to instructions and equipment service manuals such as replacing belts on motors, changing filters, replacing bearings and cooling coils, etc.; and adjusts heating and/or air conditioning controls to maintain appropriate temperature.
- Maintains machinery, equipment and tools by cleaning, lubricating, greasing, oiling, etc. to ensure their optimum working order.
- Assists in the construction of tables, wooden barricades, window screens, etc. and performs other minor carpentry work using hand and power tools such as drills and saws.
- Installs glass in windows and doors by inserting and fastening pre-cut glass in window sash, etc.
- Assists in installing and makes routine repairs to floors coverings such as tiles, linoleum and rugs as required.
- Assists in erecting and/or dismantling scaffolding and/or rigging used to gain access to high places.
- Performs related duties such as furnishing tools and materials to tradesmen during the course of a job; holding materials or tools in place while journeyman works on them; cleaning work area upon completion; operating or using soldering and/or brazing equipment; erecting and dismantling wall partitions; requisitioning supplies and maintaining records.
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge and skill of the use and operation of hand-held power tools such as drills/etc.
- Knowledge and skill of the types and uses of small hand tools such as pliers, chisels, hammers.
- Understand the methods used in the care and maintenance of small and hand-held power tools.
- Can follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
- Able to deal tactfully with others.
- Maintain a calm manner in emergency situations.
- Work in a team setting

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using gas powered equipment (i.e. snow blower)
- Experience providing labor and support to building maintenance and facilities
Working conditions:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time; physical stamina and endurance, and ability to lift and carry heavy objects with or without an accommodation.
- Must be willing to assist in all construction project work in and around the hospital.

Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital's services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity.
Located in the heart of Boston's Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 260 inpatient beds including 115 Psychiatric beds and 28 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction inmates and community patients.
The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients.
In addition to direct medical services LSH hosts and supports an array of services located on the campus, serving patients struggling with addictions and homelessness.
