Job Description
Taunton State Hospital is seeking a candidate for the Nursing Services Department to function as temporary Charge Nurse (Registered Nurse III), providing nursing care, custody, and instruction to adult psychiatric patients on locked units; establishing a nursing plan of care utilizing the Person-Centered Approach within the Recovery Model; and assessing the health care needs of the patients and their families. The candidate will participate in admissions, discharges, and related duties.
Please Note: This position is temporary, working a full-time 40-hour schedule on the third shift. The hours are 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., and the days off are: Week 1 - Monday/Saturday; Week 2 - Sunday/Friday.

Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Provides nursing care, custody and instruction to adult psychiatric patients on locked units within DMH.
- Acts as the Charge Nurse and delegates and oversees the completion of tasks of licensed and non-licensed nursing staff assigned to the unit for their shift.
- Ensures that optimum quality care is provided by serving as patient advocate, ensuring that patient confidentiality and maintaining the rights of all patients.
- Gains the knowledge required to provide Patient Centered Care to all patients within the Recovery Model
- Identifies and addresses patient needs by performing nursing assessments, developing nursing interventions and providing nursing care by following professional, hospital, departmental standards.
- Acts as a role model for providing Recovery and Trauma informed care.
- Provides quality psychiatric care to the patients with respect to their needs as defined by the age specific population served.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.

Taunton State Hospital (TSH) operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is a 62-bed inpatient facility that provides continuing care inpatient services to adults with major mental illnesses. The hospital is a leader in the successful integration of the Principles of Recovery and a rehabilitation philosophy into the treatment model and a part of the Southeast Area which works closely with the inpatient treatment teams to facilitate patients' discharge back to the community.

Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, and (B) six months of which must have been in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
