Division Overview:
The Tax Administration Division is responsible for fostering voluntary compliance and narrowing the tax gap by identifying, educating, and auditing noncompliant taxpayers. The Tax Administration Division audits the tax returns of businesses and individuals filed, including sales/use, meals, rooms occupancy and special fuels, are subject to examination by the Tax Administration Division staff

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Performs tobacco product inspections at assigned retail locations ensuring compliance with all tobacco related requirements.
• Examines the returns and records of individuals, corporations, and other business establishments to determine tax filing and liability status
• initiates and monitors enforcement procedures against those found not to be in compliance
• inspects returns for proper amounts
• initiates assessment procedures when necessary
• prepares CIB and Audit referrals
• assists taxpayers with appropriate paperwork in order to adjust accounts accordingly including related paperwork as required.
• The primary purpose of the work is to ensure compliance with and enforcement of the applicable tax laws, rules, and regulations of the Commonwealth.
Qualifications
First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
- MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting, auditing or tax examining work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience.
II. A Graduates degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for a maximum of three years of the required (A) experience.
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
NOTE: Educational substitutions will be permitted for a maximum of three years of the required experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operators License may be required.
