Tax Division:
The Tax Administration Division is responsible for fostering voluntary compliance and narrowing the tax gap by identifying, educating, and auditing noncompliant taxpayers. The Tax Administration Division audits the tax returns of businesses and individuals filed, including sales/use, meals, rooms occupancy and special fuels, are subject to examination by the Tax Administration Division staff

Trustee Tax Bureau
The Trustee Tax Bureau is responsible for fostering tax compliance and auditing tax returns relating to all the trustee taxes. The bureau is also responsible for providing quality customer service to taxpayers relating to the various trustee taxes. The bureau is made up of field audit staff, desk audit staff and a customer service contact center.
Job Description:
Tax Examiner II's in the Audit Department of the Trustee Tax Bureau are required to perform all or some of the following duties and responsibilities based on job assignment.
- Provides the highest level of professional service.
- Represents DOR in direct public dealings.
- Answers telephone inquiries.
- Resolve written inquiries.
- Affects account transactions.
- Provides technical assistance by interpreting and explaining state tax laws, rules, regulations, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Audits MA trustee tax returns.
- Research taxpayer information in connection with audit activities;
- Conducts desk audits that involve various audit issues.
- Prepare audit reports when cases are closed.
- Explain tax issues and findings to taxpayers and supervisors.
- Responsible for being proficient in the use of GeniSys, MassTaxConnect, and other systems.
- Performs related tasks as requested.
- Performs on-the-job training to employees
Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting, auditing or tax examining work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for the required experience.
Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
