THE COLLEGE: NECC serves about 5,000 credit students each semester on two campuses located in the beautiful, historic Merrimack Valley region of northeast Massachusetts. Our suburban Haverhill campus sits on 106 acres near Kenoza Lake, and features a Technology Center and an award-winning Student One-Stop Center. Our urban campus in Lawrence occupies a number of buildings in the heart of downtown. Job Description:


POSITION: Full-Time Sociology Faculty: Assistant Professor; Department of Behavioral Sciences; Division of Liberal Arts; Tenure Track; Haverhill Campus; 37.5 hours per week; MCCC/MTA Unit Faculty Position

SUMMARY: The Department of Behavioral Sciences is seeking a dynamic and engaging Sociology educator to teach Sociology classes, including teaching Sociology classes to Early College students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach a variety of Sociology courses and modalities, including SOC101 to Early College students
  • Participate and collaborate in departmental meetings and activities related to serving as full-time faculty, including curriculum development and academic assessment.
  • Align assigned Early College classes and teaching practices with the intentionally designed program goals the DHE Early College program
  • Teach assigned classes on NECC's Haverhill and Lawrence campuses
  • When necessary, teach a portion of assigned classes on location at Early College partner high school campuses
  • Attend division meetings and other required meetings
  • Perform required college service
  • Serve as academic advisor to assigned students
  • Maintain office hours

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Experience teaching Sociology at a college or high school level
  • Experience using technology in instruction and assessment
  • Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds
  • Commitment to teaching and responding to the educational needs of Early College students
  • Commitment to instruction attuned to equity mindedness and student success
  • Ability to teach with and contribute positively to a diverse and multi-cultural student population

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Community college teaching experience
  • Graduate degree in Sociology
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population

BACKGROUND CHECK: Candidates will be required to pass a CORI and SORI check as a condition of employment.


Additional Information:


SALARY: Anticipated starting salary range is $56,190.00 - $66,039.00 (Rank of Assistant Professor with a Master's degree) per academic year with complete fringe benefit package. Complete fringe benefit package including competitive health insurance, free dental insurance, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance, paid sick, vacation and personal leave, educational benefits for employee/spouse/dependents, and excellent retirement benefits. Actual salary calculated in compliance with MCCC/MTA salary schedule commensurate with education and experience. Official transcripts will be required at the time of hire.

ANTICIPATED START DATE: January 2025
