Description:
The Massachusetts Environmental Police seeks a Short-Term Seasonal Laborer I.
The Short-Term Seasonal Laborer I will perform various manual labor tasks in support of the work of skilled tradesmen and craftsmen; provide support to vessel mechanical staff, perform light mechanical duties such as oil changes, lubrication, and other mechanical work under the supervision of mechanical staff; perform boat cleaning, maintenance, and painting; perform mechanical shop cleaning and support; and perform related work as required.
The basic purpose of this work is to perform manual tasks requiring specialized skill and the use of hand tools to support general mechanical and maintenance activities.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Performs various manual labor tasks, which may require some specialized skills, to assist in the work of skilled tradesmen and craftsmen such as a mechanic.
- Performs boat maintenance, cleaning, and painting.
- Perform light mechanical work using shop tools under the on-site supervision of mechanical staff.
- Maintain mechanical shop which may include sweeping, cleaning, and moving inventory.
- Assist with loading and unloading delivery trucks, physically or by use of dollies; unpacks and stores supplies and equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and tools by washing, inspecting, tightening, and lubricating.
- Perform related duties including sweeping, collecting and removing rubbish; assisting vessel mechanics with mechanical maintenance of engines and preventive maintenance of vessels; assisting with the loading/unloading of vessels and assisting with transport of vessels.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Skill in using small hand tools such as hammers, pliers, saws, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.
- Skill in using simple motorized equipment such as forklifts, dollies, etc.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work in a team setting.
- Manual dexterity.
- Physical stamina and endurance.
This is a short-term seasonal position.
Laborers may work outdoors in all types of weather; lift and carry heavy objects; work under exposure to high noise levels, etc.; may work with or be exposed to hazardous materials or chemicals; and stand for prolonged periods of time; and may work on ladders or scaffolds: may operate machinery under supervision.
