Job Description
The Middlesex Sheriff's Office ("MSO") is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Security Camera Technician ("Technician") to work in the Information Technology Department at the Middlesex Jail and House of Correction located in Billerica, MA. The Technician is primarily responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing all cameras and other related equipment through all required safety protocols. The hours of work will be 7:00a.m. to 11:00p.m. flex, on Monday through Friday and subject to change based on the discretion of management. This is an exempt, full time, at-will employment position that reports to the Director of Information Technology.

o Diagnosing mechanical, electronic or operating issues; disassembling and inspecting cameras and other related equipment to determine any problems;
o Repairing, cleaning and calibrating cameras and broken parts and testing cameras and other related equipment and ensuring all equipment is in working order and meets all standards for performance and safety;
o Providing technical support, instruction and on-the-job training to help others understand how to use camera and other related equipment;
o Advising the Information Technology Department on the best cameras for specific applications;
o Participating in the planning and execution of various short- and long-term projects;
o Installing, servicing and troubleshooting access control systems, including the oversight and management of engineering drawings for as-builts and takeoffs;
o Installing, servicing and troubleshooting closed-circuit television ("CCTV") systems;
o Maintaining accurate records of all inventory, repairs, and services;
o Performing regular preventative maintenance on all cameras and other related equipment;
o Performing other related work as required by the Director of Information Technology and the Assistant Superintendent / Director of Security, when needed.
Working Conditions:
• Based in a correctional facility and must respond to equipment emergencies and be on-call and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide a safe, secure environment for staff and inmates/detainees;
• Must be able to work on varied shifts, weekends, nights, holidays and subject to being forced to work over 8 hours depending on operational needs;
• During emergency situations and/or disorder management, the Technician must respond to the MJHOC to facilitate any needed security related systems within the secure perimeter;
• May encounter verbal and physical abuse from offenders and interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress; stand and walk for prolonged periods of time; be required to work alone in an isolated area and; work under exposure to adverse weather conditions.
• Lifting and securing cameras and other related equipment up to 65 lbs.; safely climbing a six (6) foot ladder; laying conduit and; following precise technical instructions on deployment of cabling and equipment.
• The individual selected must be cognizant of the confidential and sensitive nature of a law enforcement agency and financial information. The individual selected must also comply with all institutional rules regarding safety and security.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree, preferred;
• Occupational Safety and Health Administration ("OSHA") training and certification;
• Commonwealth of Massachusetts Class D / System Technician license;
• Commonwealth of Massachusetts Hoisting license;
Preferred Experience, Certifications and Licenses:
• Access Control system certifications: S2; Lenel; Software House; Avigilon; Feenics and Brivo;
• CCTV system certifications: Indigovision; Milestone; Exacqvision; Avigilon and Wisenet;
• Intrusion system certifications: DMP; Bosch; Honeywell;
Additional Qualifications:
• Sound knowledge of all safety protocols in this field;
• Solid understanding of the different components that make up a camera, including lenses, shutters, viewfinders and lens mounts;
• Extensive knowledge of a variety of camera formats, equipment and in the principles of electronics and optics with the ability to assemble, maintain and repair cameras, lenses and other camera and related equipment;
• Ability to read camera instructions and specifications to troubleshoot and solve technical problems;
• Strong technical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret technical documents;
• Proficiency with computers and related software;
• Knowledge of lighting equipment and techniques;
• Experience with installing & bending conduit;
• Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment;
• Excellent communication and customer service skills;
• Ability to work independently and work with other internal departments in a fast-paced environment and execute close attention to detail and a desire to learn new skills;
• Strong organizational, writing, analytical/problem solving, research and time-management skills;
• Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the position;
• Ability to attend any other training as required by the department;
• Ability to complete multiple projects in a timely and accurate manner while maintaining comprehensive and cohesive records
In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Must have an active valid driver's license, the right to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts and pass a criminal background check, which includes medical, drug (including marijuana) and psychological screenings.
