The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks applicants for the position of Laborer II, Mohawk Complex Trails Crew. The Mohawk Complex Trails Crew monitor, maintains, and provides basic repairs to the extensive 100+ mile trail network across 12 park and forest facilities in Franklin and Berkshire Counties.
Duties:
- Performs maintenance functions on the trails system in the Mohawk Complex using appropriate hand and power tools including cordless drills & drivers, circular saws, hedge trimmers, string trimmers, brush saws, pruning shears, loppers, rakes, shovels, hammers, and other tools as required.
- Manual Labor, including, but not limited to: Digging, clearing storm damage, dragging brush, sign installation, raking leaves, culvert cleaning.
- Servicing and making minor repairs to power tools
- Hauling using wheelbarrows and trucks
- Trimming of trees and shrubs
- Assists with carpentry projects in remote areas
- Hikes to job locations
- Works outside in various weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in trail maintenance or construction
- CPR/First Aid Training
- Chainsaw certification
- Ability to work outside in all weather
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to use hand tools in accordance with recognized safety standards
Please note, if you are selected for this position and will be working less than 90 days, the position will automatically revert to a short-term position.
Our short-term positions are not part of the salary scale that is advertised within this job posting. Should this position revert to a short-term seasonal position (less than 90 days), your salary rate will be discussed with you during the interview phase of the process.
Qualifications
First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least six months of full-time, or equivalent part- time experience in performing manual labor in connection with general construction or maintenance work.
