GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Professional Work in providing care for inmates at the Hampshire Sheriff's Office Jail and House of Correction. Performs responsible and varied duties requiring knowledge of specialized nursing techniques and HOC policies and procedures; including Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT). Performs all duties of an RN/LPN. All other duties, tasks as assigned by Health Services Administrator.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
The Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse works under the direction of the Health Service Administrator of Medical and in consultation with the Physician.

- Performs responsible and varied duties requiring knowledge of specialized nursing techniques and House of Correction policies and procedures.
- May be required to exercise judgment in the analysis of circumstances surrounding individual problems.
- Has regular contact with inmates and HSO staff; makes occasional contact with medical personnel, social service and mental health agencies to discuss semi-complex information regarding the care and treatment of inmates, all under the direction of the Nurse Practitioner.
- Assists in performing routine health appraisals, triage, and sick call.
- Has access to confidential inmate records and files.
- Orders health related supplies; medications and first aid materials, including pharmacy orders.
- Notifies Physician and Nurse Practitioner of medical problems and administers medications ordered and charts medications.
- Provides health promotion and illness prevention education to inmate population.
- Accompany inmate on medical appointments if the inmate's condition warrants observation during transportation.
- Attends all required meetings.
- Any other task or duty as assigned or required.
Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE. EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
- Two years of nursing experience, preferably in emergency care; or any equivalent combination
- Current licensure by the Massachusetts State Board of Nursing
- Ability to interpret and discuss the procedure, guidelines and policies governing facility operations
- Accuracy is essential as errors could result in personal injury, delay of service delivery, and adverse public relations or legal repercussions
- Verbal ability is necessary to understand instructions, medical terminology & concepts and to communicate with patients and facility staff
- Knowledge of First Aid, CPR, and other emergency procedures is essential. Experience with Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) preferred
- Ability to deal effectively with inmates
- Must successfully pass pre-employment background check, drug/health screenings
