The Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC) is seeking highly motivated and dedicated Charge Nurse for our unit. As a Charge Nurse here you would be responsible and accountable for assessing, prescribing, delegating, coordinating, providing, and improving acute specialized nursing care. Coordinate patient assignments and delegate responsibility to professional and non-professional staff members to ensure the completion of safe and comprehensive patient care and optimum patient satisfaction. Act as role model and resource for staff members on our units.
Please Note:Full time (40hr) position available,3rd Shift, 11:15pm-7:15am, weekend B.
Employees in this position will be required to perform "mandatory overtime".

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Organizes, performs, and directs nursing care by assigning, delegating, and allocating nursing resources in the appropriate manner to meet acuity levels of care and current patient care needs.
- Ensure nursing activities are adhering to hospital policies and procedures.
- Formulates and posts completed Assignment Sheets with an R.N. signature at the beginning of the shift; and assures compliance.
- Participates in inter-shift reports, meetings, and nursing rounds at the beginning/ end of each shift to assess health care status, outcomes of nursing care, appropriateness of nursing interventions, and patient response to treatment, patient satisfaction, completion of unit assignments.
- Collaborates with Nurse Manager in multidisciplinary meetings and rounds.
- Communicates pertinent patient care information with other health care professionals and integrates appropriate information as well as administrative aspects of care so that quality care is provided consistent with multidisciplinary plans and standards for patient advocacy/care.
- Assures that education and training needs of patient families are assessed and identified so that patient families gain the knowledge and skills that will improve patient health care outcomes and meet the on-going health care needs of the patient family.
- Cooperates with the Nurse Manager through unit-based Performance Improvement Committee to formulate a unit-based P.I. Plan which addresses, aspects of care as per departmental P.I. plan and identifies opportunities/priority issues for evaluation and improvement in care.
- Participate in Risk Management Program and reporting unusual activities/situations to Risk Management Department via Nursing Department.
- Maintains inter-shift and administrative coordination of nursing process/patient care needs by sharing current clinical observations and Information through inter-shift reports and administrative meetings.
- Contributes to ongoing evaluation of staff performance in a timely manner through Employee Performance Review System; assures that competency requirements are met as per department/unit policies and collaborates with appropriate personnel to complete employee evaluations on the shift.
- Performs unit specific competencies and other related duties as required to maintain harmonious equilibrium of a changing environment for patients/clients and staff.
Required Qualifications:
- Satisfactory knowledge of the scientific theories and principles of nursing.
- Knowledge of data collection methods for patient assessments.
- Applies scientific principles to performance of nursing process.
- Ability to empathize with patients.
- Communicates effectively through oral reporting and documentation.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Demonstrates a positive attitude and treats staff/ patients/ families/ visitors/ other departments, and outside agencies with respect and dignity always.
- Ability to organize work assignment and prioritize patient needs.
- Possesses physical and mental endurance with the ability to withstand stress and remain calm in emergency situations when making decisions.
- Knowledge of types and application of emergency medical procedures, such as Cardio Pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Awareness of the types and characteristics of drugs used in providing nursing care.
- Establish rapport and deal tactfully with persons from varied ethnic, cultural and/or economic backgrounds.
- Demonstrate competence in assessing and providing age-appropriate care to all patients.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least one year of work experience with Pediatric and Adolescent patients.
- Planning team assignments, planning and evaluating nursing interventions and patient teaching programs.
- Knowledge of reporting and recording patient symptoms accurately to Nurse Manager and physician.
- Ability to explain laws, rules. regulations, policies, procedures. specifications and guidelines of governing agency operations and assigned unfit objectives.
- Ability to gather information through observational and interviewing skills, and by extrapolating data through examination of records and documents.

Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC) located in Canton, MA is a Joint Commission Accredited, 90+ bed pediatric hospital predominately serving children and young adults (ages 8-22) operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The mission of PRHC is to provide medical, rehabilitative, educational, recreational, habilitative, transitional, and complementary alternative medical services to children and young adults with multiple disabilities, assisting them to achieve their optimal level of independence in all aspects of life. PRHC offers coordinated medical care and therapies in a hospital-based environment, as well as, K-12 schooling, located on the grounds. Educational Services are provided by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. In addition, PRHC offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities such as swimming, horseback riding, adaptive sports, and many opportunities for socialization for disabled children and young adults.

Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, and (B) six months of which must have been in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
