Job Description

This is an open and continuous posting for full time (40 hour) positions. Actively looking to fill positions on the Night Shift.

The Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking dedicated, compassionate, and exceptional Registered Nurses who desire a rewarding career making a difference in the lives of individuals. The Registered Nurse II assesses the health care needs of the patients and assures their needs are met. All interactions will be person centered utilizing a person first approach with safety of all being the number one priority while acknowledging the dignity of risk. Prepares, administers and documents patient medications and treatment. Functions as a member of multidisciplinary treatment team, assume responsibility for nursing care on the inpatient unit. Maintain patient and nursing records. Follow all the standards and practices of nursing including all DMH facility and nursing policies. Accepts responsibilities and assures patient safety and supervises staff.

Please Note: These positions are 40 hours per week with alternating weekends off. The shift and days off are to be determined. Actively seeking candidates for night shift.

Shift Schedules:

  • Day Shift: 7:00am to 3:30pm
  • Evening Shift: 3:00pm to 11:30pm
  • Night Shift: 11:15pm to 7:15am

Employees in this position will be required to perform mandatory overtime.

Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Transcribes all physicians' orders and administers medications and treatments to help in the rehabilitation of the patients.
  • Completes admission assessment and initial nursing care plan based on health and safety issues by the end of the shift.
  • Provides primary nursing care to an assigned group of patients utilizing nursing process and following current standards of care.
  • Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team serving as a resource person regarding patient's health issues.
  • Manages and supervises the nursing staff in the absence of a registered nurse of a higher grade.
  • Meets patient nursing care needs as charge nurse or primary nurse by communicating key patient information to appropriate nursing staff in order to insure integration coordination and continuity of patient care.
  • Participates in the admission, discharge and transfer of patients to facilitate a smooth transition.
  • Acts as leader or co-leader of patient treatment groups.

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing.
  • Knowledge of the terminology and standard abbreviations used in nursing.
  • Knowledge of the problems in providing nursing services to special client groups such as the mentally, physically, and/or emotionally handicapped.
  • Knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, methods and techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as Psychiatric Nurse by American Nurse Association.

The CC&I CMHC provides comprehensive services to adults and children. Programs include a 16-bed acute in-patient unit, Case Management, Day Treatment Program, and Adult Community Clinical Services (ACCS). The CC&I CMHC is a Joint Commission certified facility. Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for the required experience .

Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

*Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.

Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
