The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is the state agency responsible for conserving the state's natural resources. DFG exercises responsibility over the Commonwealth's marine and freshwater fisheries, wildlife, plants, and natural communities and provides outdoor recreation opportunities to the public. The Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) serves Massachusetts' citizens by protecting, restoring, and enhancing fishery resources and their habitats while providing sustainable fisheries-related recreational and commercial opportunities.

Job Opening: The Department of Fish and Game, Division of Marine Fisheries seeks applicants for a Receiving Teller to perform the following duties:
DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Enters data, issues permits, and assists with daily operations of a MarineFisheries Regional Permit Office.
- Enters and updates permit applications into the FISH (commercial) and MassFishHunt (recreational) web-based applications. Proofs records against a daily log and uses a spreadsheet to cash-out daily receipts.
- Assists in processing incoming trip-level reports submitted by mail, walk-ins, or via electronic format.
- Reviews commercial trip-level data for quality control and assurance and participates in feedback loops designed to correct errors.
- Assists in recreational and commercial fisheries outreach duties by delivering, setting up, and staffing DMF exhibits at sportsman's shows and other public events.
- Answers general queries of the public, screens phone calls, and directs visitors as required.
- Provides administrative support as needed to personnel in the Gloucester MarineFisheries Field Station, including building operations.
Qualifications Required at Hire
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and to perform arithmetical computations with speed and accuracy.
- Ability to assist staff, contractors, and customers of diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to follow guidelines and procedures.
- Knowledge of software applications such as Word and Excel.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications Acquired on Job (List knowledge, skills, abilities)
- Knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines of the Division of Marine Fisheries.
- Knowledge of Commonwealth of Massachusetts accounting software, various MarineFisheries, Fisheries & Wildlife, and Boater Registration databases.
- Knowledge of state procedures (Internal Controls Manual) governing the protocols and methods followed for handling and recording cash, checks, and credit card transactions.
- Knowledge of the proper procedures for making and receiving agency telephone calls.
- A working knowledge of local marine fishing regulations the regulatory processes and respective governing bodies.
Qualifications

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, clerical experience, the major duties of which involved cashiering, bookkeeping, account recording or the direct handling of funds received or paid out, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A diploma as evidence of graduation from a business or commercial course of a recognized high school or vocational/technical high school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
II. A diploma for completion of a one-year, full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized non-degree granting business school above the high school level with a major in bookkeeping, accounting or business administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
III. A diploma for completion of a two-year, full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized, non-degree granting business school above the high school level with a major in bookkeeping, accounting or business administration may be substituted for the required experience.
IV. An Associate's or higher degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for the required experience.
*Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
