The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) seeks applicants for the position of Physical Therapist II. This position is an excellent opportunity for experienced professionals in this field to make a significant difference in the lives of the individuals that are supported by DDS. The Physical Therapist II will provide direct and indirect services to address the needs of the individuals supported at the Hogan Regional Center in Danvers.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - This position is assigned to the facility to provide direct clinical services. The Physical Therapist II evaluates the physical therapy needs of developmentally delayed individuals with aggressive and assaultive behaviors, acute psychiatric needs and fragile medical and physical conditions. This position conducts hands-on treatment procedures, determines need for and procures adaptive equipment and oversees its repair.
This position facilitates and oversees the rehabilitation and/ or maximal functioning of individuals with physical disabilities. It also provides clinical supervision to physical therapy staff of a lesser pay grade.
DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -
• Evaluates individuals' needs for therapy and individual characteristics through examination, interviews, direct observation, record review and by conducting diagnostic tests such as measurement of range of motion, muscle strength, posture, gait, etc. to establish and/or modify treatment plans.
• Develops and implements treatment plans for individuals by selecting therapeutic exercises and/or activities such as hydrotherapy, infrared, whirlpool baths, massage, application of hot and cold packs, paraffin baths, and/or use of physical
agents such as electricity, sound, etc.) to meet treatment requirements and /or achieve treatment objectives.
• Instructs individuals and support staff in the proper use and care of prostheses, orthopedic appliances and supportive devices such as wheelchairs, canes) crutches, walkers, etc.
• Coordinates physical therapy treatment activities with other disciplines to insure effectiveness of individuals) overall treatment programs.
• Prepares and reviews documentation on individuals' services, progress and response to treatment interventions according to professional standards and facility/regulation guidelines and mandates.
• Selects and orders appropriate remedial equipment through consultation with designers and providers of adaptive equipment.
• Provides technical consultation and on-site training to other clinical and support services staff in treatment programs and equipment.
Reviews and approves physical therapy treatment plans prepared by subordinates
Provides supervision to and monitoring of services provided by subordinates in order to meet treatment goals/objectives and provide work performance reviews.
• Provides on-going training and job performance feedback to physical therapy staff, students, interns, etc., to insure effective delivery of services and compliance with agency programs and policies.
• Interviews candidates for employment and make recommendations for hiring, promotion) etc. of agency staff.
• Reviews and recommends the establishment and revision of policies, procedures and standards governing unit activities.
• Coordinates and participates in regional clinics with outside physicians and consultants for orthopedic and orthotic needs on a monthly basis.
Qualifications Required at hire
• Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and students, and available resources; overseeing work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations; determining subordinates and students' training needs and providing or arranging for such training; motivating subordinates to work effectively; determining the need for disciplinal)' action and either recommending or initiating disciplinary action.
• Knowledge of the theory, principles, practices and terminology of physical therapy.
• Knowledge of the techniques and methods of diagnostic and prognostic testing relative to physical therapy.
• Knowledge of treatment methods, techniques, procedures and types and uses of different equipment and materials used in physical therapy.
• Knowledge of orthopedics as applied to physical therapy along with knowledge of types and uses, methods and techniques of applying orthopedic appliances.
• Knowledge of the types and uses of prosthetic devices.
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology as applied to physical therapy.
• Knowledge of the principles of human growth and development as applied to physical therapy.
• Knowledge of calibrations and/or adjustment techniques as applied to equipment used for providing physical therapy.
• Knowledge of the social, psychological or education problems of individuals with physical handicaps.
• Knowledge of and experience with individuals who are medically, emotionally, psychologically or psychiatrically in crisis.
• Ability to analyses and determine the applicability of physical therapy data to draw conclusion and make appropriate recommendations.
• Ability to gather information through questioning and observing individuals and by examining records and documents
• Ability to prepare, write and formalize general and clinical report writing, based on professional standards and facility guidelines.
• Ability to maintain accurate data records for treatments and progress.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written presentations.
• Ability to establish repot1 with others and establish/maintain harmonious working relationships with others
• Ability to give and follow oral instructions in a precise and understandable manner.
• Ability to provide training in physical therapy related subjects.
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects/persons up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to keep one's emotions under control when provoked, faced with opposition from others, or when working under conditions of stress.
• Ability to read, write in the English language.
• Ability to use a computer to type, manage databases, produce written documents and use email system.
• Ability to work with individuals with diverse and varied cultural backgrounds.
Ability to perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS ACQUIRED ON JOB (List knowledge, skills, abilities)
• Knowledge of regulations and procedures governing facility activities.
• Knowledge of the types and availability or public/private organizations and resources for providing physical therapy.
• Knowledge of the EPRS (Employee Performance Review System).
• Working knowledge of facility and state documentation systems and procedures.
• Working knowledge of strong interdisciplinary team process and the development of the ISP.
• Working knowledge of department, facility and state policies.
Successful completion of PAC training.

Qualifications
First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience as a physical therapist.
Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Physical Therapist license issued by the Massachusetts Division of Licensure Board of Allied Health Professionals in accordance with Chapter 667 of the Acts of 1982.
Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
