Job Description
The Veterans Home at Holyoke is seeking an experienced nursing professional with strong leadership skills for our Full-Time (40 hours/week) Evening Shift Nursing Supervisor (RN III) vacancy. The RN III is the third level in the series and candidates will assume supervision and administration of unit staff. We are looking for candidates who model a positive and professional image that emulates the Home's mission and encourages a spirit of cooperation with coworkers, all while promoting teamwork and sharing information useful to achieving desired results.
In addition to staff supervision, the RN III is also responsible for providing overall exceptional patient driven care and support to our veterans. The successful candidate will support, educate, direct and guide the performance of other RN, LPN, CNA and administrative staff, while communicating information and subject matter expertise in a clear and constructive manner.

Schedule:
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position working from 3:00pm-11:30 pm. Days off will vary, but will include an alternating weekend/holiday schedule.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Provide direction and overall delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse resident veteran population
- Assess, plan and evaluate nursing care and veteran/family progress towards goals while guiding staff as needed
- Serve as shift lead in collaboration with the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing while maintaining accountability for scheduling of staff, supplies and managing expenses
- Foster high standards of resident care through the provision of diligent orientation and continuing education efforts of staff including best practices, teamwork and professional development
- Interact and collaborate with departments and personnel to facilitate positive patient care outcome including physical/occupational therapy, hospice, pharmacy, lab, housekeeping and geropsychology
- Support the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke mission, vision and operational policies while maintaining regulatory and department compliance with Joint Commission, and state/federal regulations
- Develop methods for the evaluation of veteran care, such as on-going medical record review, report findings, actions and follow-up via the Nursing Department Performance Improvement process
- Maintain personal/professional growth and proficiency by attending in-services, seminars, and workshops; remain current with healthcare trends and contemporary nursing practices
- Facilitate daily or weekly staff meetings to discuss patient status, departmental communications, and other concerns or issues
- Perform routine personnel and administrative duties such as submission of payroll/attendance, ongoing feedback and performance appraisals to assigned staff; document staff performance matters through progressive discipline when appropriate
Required Qualifications:
- Must possess a current, active license to practice as an RN under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing
- At least one year of full-time or equivalent part-time experience as an RN in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility; six (6) months of which must have been in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to deal tactfully with others
- Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience in geriatric nursing, hospice, memory care or a long-term care environment
- Proficient understanding of the principles and practices of geriatric nursing, dementia, hospice, and modern long-term care
- Knowledge of standard nursing policies, emergency procedures and other methods/techniques including safe administration of medications
- Ability to plan and direct nursing service across multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams
- Possess creativity, integrity, and initiative; ability to provide critical thinking skills to address clinical issues
- Capacity to maintain accurate records and exercise discretion in handling confidential information
- Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of quality care, health and safety approach

Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, and (B) six months of which must have been in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES:
Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
