Job Description

The state operated Veterans Home at Chelsea is an independent state agency consisting of long-term care and a domiciliary which are independent living quarters for our veterans. The care and services provided by the Veterans Homes are supported by an extraordinary group of staff working to meet the needs of our veterans.

The ideal incumbent's role as the Nursing scheduler will be to provides scheduling and staffing coverage for the Nursing Department. Inputs, retrieves, maintains, and modifies data on a variety of scheduling and computerized staffing systems for all nursing units and float staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  1. Collaborates with Staff Development department for scheduled mandated nursing staff trainings.
  2. Creates nurse staff schedules for new hire nursing staff.
  3. Processes schedule changes within nursing department.
  4. Works collaboratively with nursing supervisors to fill call-out shifts.
  5. Generates and maintains the Nursing Department schedules.
  6. Contacts Nursing staff to solicit volunteers for authorized overtime and notifies employees of approved overtime and extra time.
  7. Files materials such as correspondence, and nursing logs attendance records, etc.
  8. Collects/Tracks time off requests for all nursing staff.
  9. Ensures that agency time logs, daily worksheets and need lists for all shifts are complete.
  10. Checks monthly schedules and daily worksheets to ensure accuracy.
  11. Provides support to Director of Nursing as necessary.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE (List knowledges, skills, abilities.):

  9. Ability to give written and oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
  10. Ability to maintain accurate records.
  11. Ability to assist and work with people of diverse backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS ACQUIRED ON JOB (List knowledges, skills, abilities.):
  1. Knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing assigned activities
  2. Knowledge of the types and uses of agency forms
  3. Knowledge of state agencies and resources
  4. Knowledge of the proper telephone procedures for making and receiving agency calls both via the landline telephone as well as virtual platforms (i.e. Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.)


Qualifications

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

Applicants must have at least (A) five years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in office work, of which (B) at least two years must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity, or (C) an equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below:

''I. A diploma as evidence of graduation from the commercial or business course of a recognized high school or vocational/technical high school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience. *

''II. A diploma as evidence of graduation from a course other than the commercial or business course of a recognized high school or vocational/technical high school or possession of a Massachusetts high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for a maximum of eight months of the required experience. * ''

III. A diploma for completion of a one year, full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized, non-degree granting business or secretarial school above the high school level may be substituted for a maximum or one year of the required experience. * ''

IV. A diploma for completion of a two-year, full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized, non-degree granting business or secretarial school above the high school level may be substituted for two years of the required experience. ''

Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
