About the Multimodal Planning Team:
The Multimodal Planning Group develops and updates a variety of statewide transportation plans covering the movements and mobility needs of both people and goods. The group examines opportunities and challenges to improving pedestrian, bicycle, rail, highway, and other transportation facilities by managing and/or participating in transportation planning studies, conducted either internally or by other entities such as consultant firms, regional planning agencies, and other divisions of MassDOT. Often, these studies are part of the standard planning, design, and environmental processes required to advance a transportation project forward to implementation. The group also provides analysis, data, and information as needed to support current studies, traffic forecasts, air quality planning activities, and a variety of transportation plans and programs.

Position Summary:
The Co-Op will work under the supervision of a member of the Multimodal Planning team on a variety of corridor and transportation planning studies underway in the section. The successful candidate will be familiar with transportation planning concepts, be able to manage their time effectively and handle multiple tasks at one time, work collaboratively with others, and communicate clearly and effectively, both written and orally. The ability to think critically and the possession of a strong passion for transportation and the planning field are important attributes for the successful candidate. A successful candidate for this position should be flexible and open to new challenges.
Potential Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with the development and implementation of statewide studies and projects, including reviewing deliverables, developing presentations and memos, note taking and developing meeting summaries, and logging invoices.
- Conduct research assignments to support the team's work.
- Actively participate in team strategy sessions, internal and external stakeholder meetings, organization events, and other duties as necessary.
- Develop geospatial analysis, data visualization, and transportation analysis skills.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Strong communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment, with multiple competing priorities/projects.
- Ability to work effectively in a small and collaborative team environment.
- Solution-oriented attitude, with excellent time management and organizational skills; strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with ArcGIS software, QGIS, or other GIS software programs a plus.
- Experience in communications and/or graphic design a plus.
- Experience and interest in multimodal transportation and/or land use planning a plus.
- May require travel across the Commonwealth and some evening meetings.
