Job Description

General Statement of Duties:

Provide mental health services to inmates in a correctional setting including crisis intervention, screening, assessment and evaluation, psychoeducational services, individual and group therapy, treatment planning and release planning. Monitor inmates with mental health service needs in general population and specialized housing.

Supervision Received:

Work under the direction of the Mental Health Coordinator and Director of Clinical Services, or other employees of a higher grade who provide instruction and guidance, assign work and review performance through oral and written reports for adherence to policy and conformance with rules and regulations of the Essex County Sheriff's Department (ECSD).

Essential Functions:

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide direct clinical care and consultation services in accordance with ECSD policies and procedures and in accordance with the ethical standards of relevant professional organizations (e.g., NASW).
  • Provide crisis intervention, screening, assessment, and evaluation of the inmate population.
  • Conduct individual and group therapy, psychoeducational services.
  • Provide treatment planning and release planning.
  • Understand the relevant accreditation standards, assure compliance, and maintain all timelines required within the scope of the position.
  • Communicate and work with both facility staff and outside support agencies to facilitate patient treatment.
  • Participate in on-call emergency rotation.

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work will vary depending on the needs of the Department.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in a behavioral/social science field from an accredited college or university.
  • LCSW, LICSW or LMHC (applicants within 6 months of
  • 2 years professional experience in clinical social work or mental health counseling; group and individual psychotherapy; crisis intervention; and mental health assessments.
  • Experience working with underprivileged and vulnerable populations; establishing strong personal and clinical boundaries; communicating effectively; working efficiently both individually and collaboratively.
