Purpose: The Office of the State Treasurer's Legal Department is seeking a law student (2L or 3L) during the Summer 2025 semester.
About the Legal Department: In part, acts as in-house counsel to the Treasury Executive Staff and all Treasury departments. Attorneys advise and consult department heads and staff on a variety of legal issues, draft legal memoranda, appear in administrative hearings, negotiate contracts, respond to public records requests, interpret statutes and regulations, and guide the process for purchasing goods and services.
Position Summary: Co-ops will be exposed to a variety of areas, with primary focus on research and ad hoc projects. Co-ops will assist the legal team with researching specific questions regarding law and policy, preparing legal written work, and attending various meetings alongside legal team. Interest and/or coursework in employment law, trusts & estates, contracts, constitutional law, and laws pertaining to state employees and public bodies is strongly preferred, but not necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Research statutes, regulations, and case authority to respond to legal inquiries
- Provide written or oral responses to legal inquiries
- Attend different meetings with Treasury legal staff
- Assist with different administrative tasks related to legal team operations
- Other tasks as requested
Qualifications
Preferred Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Strong research skills, including adeptness with Westlaw
- Ability to write clearly and persuasively
- Working knowledge of MS Office Software, especially Excel and Word
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments at once

Compensation:
- The hourly pay for Co-Ops will be $25/hour
Work Schedule:
The program will allow you to work Monday through Friday (except for holidays) with 37.5 hours a work week from June to August over a 10-week timeframe. You must also be able to travel to the Boston Office location a minimum of 1-2 times a week based on your work schedule.
Please note that the exact schedule will be determined after a discussion with the direct supervisor.
