The Massachusetts Veterans Home at Chelsea (MVH) is currently seeking Kitchen Service Worker(s) to join their team!
As Kitchen Service Worker, you will work in the Dietary Kitchen(s) by serving meals, prepares simple meals, dishes and special diets according to instructions. Also, set up food tray and delivers food to patients. Clean the kitchen, washes dishes, pots, and pans as well as store and put away food. As a KSW, you will ensures the safe, sanitary and timely functioning of the Dietary Department.
MVH at Chelsea is a Veterans Administration recognized State Home and provides long-term care (and Domiciliary Care - CHE) (and Adult Day Health - HLY) for veterans. The MVH is licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), Certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and is accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC). The MVH provides a full range of skilled nursing and ancillary services meeting the needs of our resident population.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists Cooks by cleaning, cutting and otherwise processing food for cooking and serving.
- Sets up cafeteria service line with hot and cold foods for meal period service.
- Prepares coffee and other beverages for meal service period.
- Assists in preparing patient trays by putting on menus, silverware, condiments, dishes, foods, etc.
- Assists in preparing bread and desserts for service.
- Serves food on cafeteria line.
- Cleans all food service equipment in area of work.
- Returns soiled carts and trays to dish room.
- Scrapes and prepares trays, dishes and silverware for washing.
- Runs dish washer machine. Loads and unloads dish machine and properly stores dishes, trays, silverware, etc.
- Washes pots, pans, dishes and other food service equipment which cannot go through dish machine.
- Cleans walls, floors, kitchen equipment and mobile trucks in kitchen areas, cafeterias, refrigerators, freezers, storerooms, and food service office.
- Takes tray carts and food trucks to other floors and buildings.
- Attends applicable in services and training sessions.
- Sets up food for simple routine functions.
- Inspect assigned areas to determine that work has been performed according to establish procedures
- Prepare foods for special diets by following instructions on dietary cards.
- Prepare and cook simple dishes such as sandwiches, salads, soups, ect.
- Performs other duties as assigned related to food service needs.
Qualifications Required at Hire:
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to understand and apply the policies, procedures, rules, regulations, etc. governing assigned unit activities
- Ability to deal tactfully with others
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects
- Physical stamina and endurance
- Knowledge of the safety and sanitation practices and procedure followed in preparing and serving food
- Knowledge of the types and uses of utensils and equipment used in preparing and serving food
- Knowledge of the material, methods and techniques of cleaning
Qualifications Acquired on Job:
- Knowledge of agency and departmental policies and procedures regarding attendance, safety and sanitation.
- Knowledge of dietary procedures for set up of trays, functions, cafeteria, etc
