House Mentor

Job Description

The House Mentor will participate as a member of the Hampshire County Sheriff's administrative team in the management of the Rocky Hill Re-Entry Collaborative housing facility. The appropriate candidate will provide direction and guidance on community living in a harm reduction-based environment. This is a civilian position in support of an effort to re-integrate parolees in a safe housing facility with wrap around community services. The collaborative project is a joint effort between the Hampshire Sheriff's Office, The Office of Public Safety and The Massachusetts Parole Board to establish transitional, sober housing in a non-security setting.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The House Mentor works under the direct supervision of the Bridge Senior Case Manager and the Captain overseeing the building who will review work for compliance with policy and assign special tasks as required.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

The House Mentor may provide direction during coordination efforts to treatment and re-entry staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and oversee operations, scheduled maintenance and administration of the Rocky Hill Re-Entry Collaborative Building.
  • Meet with residents regarding building accommodations and issues; on-sight administration and management of resident(s) issues pertaining to housing.
  • Answer resident and community inquiries pertaining to program policies and services
  • Gathers and prepares required reports as directed for submittal to supervisory staff.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation for a sober, transitional program.
  • Attends staff meetings as directed.
  • Performs any other task or assignment given by supervisor.


Qualifications

  • 2-year college degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work or related field or combination of education and job or personal experience equivalent to a 2-year college degree.
  • At least one-year experience working with people engaged in the Criminal Justice System.
  • Commitment to working with diverse communities, underserved populations and staff within the program.
  • Working understanding of harm reduction principles and practice.
  • Strong knowledge of substance use disorder and behavioral health.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including experience in dealing professionally with challenging participants.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a non-traditional setting and communicate with others in a direct, clear and professional manner.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid Driver's License and access to reliable transportation.
  • Supports the mission and goals of the agency.
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony or served a sentence in a Jail or House of Correction
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.
