Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain equipment such as sweeper, mower, tractor, plow, loader, backhoe, sander, tree chipper, dump trunk and hotbox in order to clean, repair and maintain highways, guard rails, and grounds.
- Respond to emergency road obstructions, including automobile accidents to assist with lane closures or detour signage to keep traffic moving in a safe manner.
- Load, unload, move and stockpile material including salt, sand, dirt, gravel, etc.
- Haul and spread sand, gravel and rock to maintain highways.
- Maintain drainage structures to ensure proper water flow in order to prevent flooding.
- Report under emergency conditions, such as utility breaks and snow removal, as required.
- Perform snow and ice removal and treat highways with sand or salt to provide safe pavement and traction for vehicles.
- Install and maintain drainage and storm water systems.
- Train and direct grounds workers, utility workers or laborers, as assigned.
- Operate automotive machinery, such as trucks, tractors and similar vehicles.
- With minimum supervision, installs and repairs road culverts, cleans ditches, loads trucks and performs snow removal operations.
- Operate street sweeper to clean, maintain and clear debris.

Employees assigned to District 6 will work overnight shifts. Employees who work overnight shifts received a shift differential per the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Employees will be expected to work varied shifts and/or irregular hours (i.e.: weekends, holidays, nights, etc.) and ability to respond, either directly or through others, to emergencies including extended hours, nights and weekends.

Qualifications

Minimum Entrance Requirements
Applicants must have at least one year of experience in the use and maintenance of a variety of hand-held and heavy power operated tools and equipment, and general landscape, maintenance or construction experience.
Incumbents are required to have a current and valid Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver's License (CDL), Class B and valid Hoisting Engineers License, Class 2B and 4G.
Applicants who possess a CDL will be given six months from their time of hire to obtain the necessary hoisting licenses.
This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to Federal DOT drug and alcohol testing.
