The Massachusetts Veterans Home (MVH) at Chelsea is currently seeking a motivates Food Service Director to join their team!
The MVH at Chelsea is a long-term care as well as independent living domiciliary facility. The Food Service Director supervises the staff and overall operations of the Dietary department to include the canteen and kitchen areas. Assigns work and perform related work as required. Develops and maintains food service policies and procedures in accordance with administrative directives and professional standards. Qualified to care for adult and geriatric Veterans.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Exercises full supervision over employees within department
- Selects and supervises employees engaged in the Dietary department
- Works closely with Registered Dietitian(s) to ensure all veteran nutritional needs are met
- Coordinates with dietary team on menu changes
- Inspects interior of kitchen daily.
- Evaluates all employees EPRS Forms.
- Inventories department yearly. (furnishings, equipment, etc.)
- Prepare daily work schedules.
- Provides on-the-job training for staff and orientation for new employees.
- Able to demonstrate and participate in all jobs and tasks of the department
- Prepares weekly schedules vacations schedules, records time book and manual on in-service.
- Interviews salesmen and orders supplies and equipment as necessary.
- Ensures regulatory compliance with all, but not limited to, VA, TJC and DPH requirements.
- Conducts monthly in-service training with all department staff. Either one-on-one or in a group.
- Attends various meetings, i.e. Staff, Environmental, Infection Control, Safety and Emergency Conservation.
- May need to cover schedule holes during weekends, holidays, vacations and illnesses of employees if necessary
- Arrange for all department-specific set-ups for the Soldiers' Home activities, i.e. meetings, picnics, parties, etc.
- Basic knowledge of computers and their use pertaining to Soldiers' Home Dietary programs.
- Create review/revise departmental policies and procedures in accordance to department and organizational need.
- Maintain Performance Improvement project schedule and documentation.
- Performs related duties as required

Qualifications Acquired on Job:
- Knowledge of recent innovations in cleaning techniques.
- Knowledge of supervisory practices.
- Obtain Serv Safe Proctor certification.
- Gain working knowledge of Camis Work Order System .
- Gain working knowledge of Geri Menu and other Food Service Programs.
- Ability to understand, explain and apply the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, etc. governing assigned unit activities.
- Knowledge of the organizational structure and functions of the assigned agency.
- Knowledge of the proper procedures for making and receiving agency telephone calls.
- Knowledge of the types and uses of agency forms.

Qualifications
First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative or managerial experience in business administration, business management or public administration the major duties of which involved program management, program administration, program coordination, program planning and/or program analysis, and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor's degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience.
II. A Graduate degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of three years of the required (A) experience.
III. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.
Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
NOTE: No substitutions will be permitted for the required (B) experience.
