Job Description
Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) is looking for a dedicated and experienced Environmental Services Specialist IV to join our team. In this role, you will coordinate and supervise housekeeping staff, providing hands-on training while ensuring the hospital is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness. You'll oversee daily cleaning tasks, including project work, emergency cleanups, function set-ups, and preparation of patient rooms and office areas. Additionally, you'll operate and train staff on all housekeeping equipment used to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients and staff.
Schedule:
7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Days off: Saturday and Sunday

- Supervise and train housekeeping staff, including orienting new employees and ensuring adherence to departmental policies and safety regulations.
- Conduct employee performance reviews and handle corrective disciplinary actions, reporting findings to the Director of Environmental Services.
- Assign daily tasks, requisition cleaning supplies, and ensure proper use and care of equipment.
- Perform inspections to ensure cleanliness and completion of tasks; submit work orders for repairs and follow up as needed.
- Oversee inventory of supplies and recommend purchases of custodial equipment.
- Oversee time and attendance, approve leave requests, and issue keys and equipment to staff.
- Complete incident reports, interview applicants, and perform general housekeeping duties when necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrate knowledge of custodial methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in building maintenance.
- Apply safety practices and procedures in custodial work and storage of cleaning materials.
- Supervise staff by planning and assigning work, evaluating performance, and providing training.
- Utilize supervision principles and techniques to motivate staff and oversee disciplinary actions.
- Coordinate team efforts to achieve work objectives effectively.
- Follow and provide clear oral and written instructions.
- Comprehend and apply departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others and manage interactions tactfully.
- Exhibit physical stamina and endurance to perform required tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with policies, procedures, and regulations governing unit activities.
- Understanding of supervision principles, practices, and techniques.
About the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital:
Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital's services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity.
Located in the heart of Boston's Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction and House of Correction inmates and community patients.
The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients. In addition to direct medical services LSH hosts and supports an array of services located on the campus, serving patients struggling with addictions and homelessness.

Qualifications

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in building custodial or institution housekeeping work, and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity.

S alary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range
