Job Description
The Wrentham Developmental Center (WDC) operated by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is seeking an experienced Electrician I to support installation and repair all electrical work at the WDC. The selected candidate troubleshoots electrical problems, maintain inventory of equipment and electrical supplies, determine materials and/or equipment for assigned projects.
Duties and Responsibilities: (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive)
- Plan and prioritize electrical projects at WDC, including job scope, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety codes and regulations.
- Monitors electrical systems, emergency back-up systems, and fire alarm systems.

- Repairs transformers, motors, generators, regulators, and all similar equipment.
- Install and maintain phone system, street lighting, cable TV systems, and computer network systems.
- Clean and lubricate electrical machinery and equipment.
- Maintain an inventory of parts and equipment.
- Operate and maintain testing switchboards, power panels, and repair fire alarm systems.
Required Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of electrical trade.
- Knowledge of electrical terminology, codes, regulations, emergency generator operations and fire alarm systems.
- Ability to read blueprints and drawings.
- Knowledge of the types and uses of equipment including testing equipment and inspection techniques used in the electrical trade.
- Basic understanding of safety and equipment maintenance.
- Thoroughness, independence, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient in safety procedures when performing electrical work in order to prevent risk of electrical shock and accidents.
Agency Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must possess a current and valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license or equivalent license from the state in which you reside.
PLEASE NOTE
- This position is designated as an "EMERGENCY" position in the Department of Developmental Services Emergency Plan. This means that whenever the Governor declares that the Commonwealth is in a state of Emergency, selected candidate is required to report to work.
This position is located at the Wrentham Developmental Center in Wrentham, MA.
Schedule Information:
Full-time - 40 hour weekly position on 1st Shift
Schedule - Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Days off - Sunday and Saturday
Flexibility required to meet the needs of the program/area office.

Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrician's License issued by the State Examiners of Electricians.*
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license or equivalent license from the state in which you reside.
Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range .
