The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's Office of Data Analysis and Reporting is responsible for the preparation and production of a variety of K-12 education data reports that fulfill state and federal reporting requirements. The office makes data available to agency leadership, district and school leaders and educators, policymakers, research organizations, stakeholders, and the general public through public reports, dashboards, research files, and data-sharing agreements.

The Office of Data Analysis and Reporting, within the Center for Data, Assessment and Accountability is seeking an Education Data Analyst. The Education Data Analyst is responsible for developing and cultivating the use of existing and new college, career, and technical education (CCTE) data resources through a cycle of inquiry for the purpose of improving outcomes for students and providing coaching and technical assistance to school/district leaders. The Education Data Analyst will also support the production, reporting, and communication of a variety of other K-12 education data statistics, including but not limited to student enrollment and demographics, post-secondary readiness and outcome measures, and other measures of equitable access to high-quality educational opportunities.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Collaborating with staff and leaders in other agency offices to communicate CCTE and other data and development needs;

• Working with staff in other offices to fulfill federal data reporting requirements;

• Responding to inquiries and data requests from internal and external stakeholders; and

• Other duties, as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess:

• Strong organizational skills.
• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex information to different audiences with a range of comfort and experience using education data.
• The ability to collect, understand, present, analyze, and interpret qualitative and quantitative data accurately and objectively.
• Experience working with multiple, large datasets.
• Experience preparing qualitative and quantitative reports and presenting them to a wide variety of audiences.
• Familiarity with Massachusetts education data, issues, and policies, and in particular, those related to college and career readiness.
• Proficiency and workplace experience in performing data analyses using SPSS, Snowflake, Oracle/SQL, or a comparable statistical analysis tool.
• Demonstrated experience using Power BI or another similar data reporting and visualization software.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
• The ability to work on multiple tasks and/or projects concurrently with multiple deadlines and outcomes.
• A demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment as well as work independently with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of and expertise with racial equity, combating implicit bias, cultural competency in the context of the educational system.
• Ability to learn and value the varying cultural and community norms of students, families, school districts and other community members through awareness of one's own cultural identity and views about difference.
• Understanding of the complex range of issues that leads to college and career readiness, including but not limited to academic and career development success on both the secondary and postsecondary levels.
• Facility with technology, including the ability to quickly orient knowledge and skills to utilize new applications and tools.

Qualifications

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree and at least four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional educational experience in a specific or related content area, educational program/or service;

a Master's degree or higher in a specific or related educational content area may be substituted for two years of the required experience -- 30 semester hours equals one year of experience for substitution purposes.

Special Requirements: Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License or the equivalent from another state may be required.
