About DOER:

Job Description:

The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources is seeking an intern to support External Affairs and stakeholder engagement. External Affairs is part of DOER's Coordination and Engagement team and leads DOER's communications efforts, including media relations, stakeholder engagement, public events, web content, and social media.

The intern will work on a variety of initiatives including communications-related projects and implementing stakeholder best practices with DOER staff. In order to complete these projects, the intern will interact with various DOER staff to gather information concerning projects and activities and coordinate efforts.

A strong candidate will have solid written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, experience using a graphic design platform or software, experience with community or stakeholder engagement, experience using a Content Management System, and good organizational skills. The intern will need to manage multiple projects with concurrent timelines and will need to be proactive, detail oriented, and able to work independently. Knowledge of or a desire to learn about Massachusetts' energy priorities and initiatives is a plus.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with the External Affairs Manager and DOER Divisions to write, edit, and distribute press releases and other related content
  • Work with the External Affairs Manager and DOER Divisions to plan, execute and publicize events as needed
  • Work with Deputy Commissioner and DOER Division staff to identify projects that require stakeholder engagement and begin implementing stakeholder engagement best practices.
  • Create engaging content for DOER's social media channels, including photos, videos, graphics, and written posts
  • Work on a website redesign project, including supporting the organization and presentation of stakeholder engagement opportunities
  • Conduct research and update DOER's media list
  • Build an image library and templates for social media, presentations, etc.
  • Complete other tasks as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient with graphic design software/platforms such as Canva
  • Knowledge of Microsoft suite platforms (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and collaborate with others to accomplish assigned work objectives

Hours per week:

  • Full time - 37.5 hours per week
  • This position is partially remote with a hybrid schedule that includes a minimum of one day in-office per week

Other relevant information:

  • Contracted Student Internship compensation will be up to $23/hour for College Undergraduate Students and up to $35/hour for Graduate Students
  • Internship duration June 2 - August 15
