Job Description
Tewksbury Hospital under the Department of Public Health (DPH) is currently hiring for the position of Communication Dispatcher I, at its 370 bed Joint Commission accredited hospital. The hospital provides comprehensive treatment, care, and comfort to adults with medical and/or mental illnesses.
Please Note: This position works 40 hours weekly and is on the 2nd shift from 2:30pm - 10:30pm with Sunday and Monday off.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
• Operates Cisco Switchboard and Cisco Software on computer and makes P.A. System announcements.
• Transmits and receives messages from a radio communications base station. Coordinates all radio communications to fixed stations, mobile, and fixed units during emergency situations.

• Contacts sources of aid during emergency situations including severe weather conditions.
• Operates and trains required personnel on various communications equipment including voice terminals, power failure phones, alphamate/numeric beepers, in-house pagers, cellular
phones, and TDD devices. Monitors alarms systems for Fires, Code Blues, Code Grays, Code Yellows, Pharmacy, Blood Bank, Oxygen, Sump Pump, Water Tank, temperature alarms, and door alarms.
• Checks and tests operating conditions of all communications equipment previously mentioned as well as elevator phones, speaker testing and ring down lines. Reports malfunctions and calls for repair. Maintains a detailed, accurate shift log.
• Required to remain on duty until relief personnel comes in to work.

• Effective communication skills and exhibited ability to establish and maintain positive and harmonious working relationships.
• Talent for maintaining a calm manner in stressful and emergency situations.
• Skilled in making decisions and acting quickly in dangerous or emergency situations.
• Capacity to exercise discretion in handling confidential information and skilled in maintaining accurate records.
