Job Description

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) has an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual seeking a full-time entry level accountant position for the Southeast Regional Business Office, located in Middleboro, MA. The Accountant I position meets the business needs of all areas in the DDS Southeast Region.

Job Responsibilities: (The duties and responsibilities stated are general summary and not all inclusive.)

  • Encumber and process lower subsidiary documents through the Commonwealth's internal Massachusetts Management Accounting and Reporting System (MMARS).
  • Respond to vendors regarding billing discrepancies, prompt pay discounts and other related billing/payment transactions.
  • Respond to incoming calls from vendors, Regional staff, Area Offices, Southeastern Residential Services (SRS) and Wrentham Developmental Center (WDC).
  • Enter information and maintain accurate spreadsheets for lower subsidiary accounts with Microsoft Excel and FMIS database.
  • Process requests for purchase orders and ensure adequate funds are budgeted.
  • Prepare payment vouchers for goods and services rendered.
  • Enter requisitions and award bids for commodities in Commbuys.
  • Daily receive, date stamp and distribute incoming mail.
  • Store/file and retrieve records from files such as correspondence, purchase orders, payment vouchers, and research account balances.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of MMARS, Commbuys, FMIS and Vendor Web
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel and Word
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good communication skills

Agency Requirements:

  • Must possess a current and valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license or equivalent license from the state in which you reside.

Schedule Information:

• Full-time - 37.5 hour weekly position on 1st Shift (day)

• Schedule - Monday through Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

• Days off - Sunday and Saturday

ALL EMPLOYEES ARE PAID ON A BI-WEEKLY BASIS AND MUST HAVE DIRECT DEPOSIT.

This is a Civil Service position. If there is no Civil Service list for this title, employees appointed must take and pass the next Civil Service examination when administered.

Qualifications

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting or auditing, or (B) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, paraprofessional experience in accounting or auditing, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required (A) experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. An Associate's or higher degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for the required (A) experience.

II. Successfully completed education in accounting or business administration in a recognized business school or school of accounting may be substituted for the required (A) experience on the basis of one year of such education above the high school level for six months of the required (A) experience.


*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

NOTE: No substitution will be permitted for the required (B) experience.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range .
