The School of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track position in Music Theory and Composition at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2025. Applicants must possess a strong desire to teach in a department and institution with an emphasis on excellent teaching and continuation of scholarship that involves engaging and collaboration with undergraduate students.

Responsibilities include a teaching load of 4/4 per semester, student advising, continuing scholarship and service to the University community with additional Requirements as per the MSCA contract. Applicants should demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching, especially traditionally underrepresented and first-generation students, demonstrated teaching experience appropriate to the level of appointment, and evidence of scholarly/creative activity.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Terminal degree in Music Theory, Composition, or related field by June 30, 2025.
  • ABD will be considered with an anticipated degree completion date by June 30, 2025.
  • A track record of teaching excellence as evidenced by student evaluations.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body.
  • Ability to teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses in music theory and composition.
  • Ability to teach music technology courses, including use of DAWs and audio editing software.
  • Ability to teach introductory general education music courses.
  • Ability to integrate appropriate technology and software in teaching.

Preferred:

  • Keyboard skills.
  • Experience in live audio recording and engineering.
  • Experience in game audio.
  • Evidence of interest and success in mentoring underrepresented minority students is highly desired.
