The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is the state agency responsible for conserving the state's natural resources. DFG exercises responsibility over the Commonwealth's marine and freshwater fisheries, wildlife, plants, and natural communities and provides outdoor recreation opportunities to the public.

MassWildlife is responsible for the conservation of freshwater fish and wildlife in the Commonwealth, including endangered plants and animals. MassWildlife restores protects, and manages land for wildlife to thrive and for people to enjoy

Job Opening:
The Department of Fish and Game (DFG), MassWildlife seeks applicants for an Angler Education Program Seasonal (Contracted Seasonal Employee) to perform the following duties:

Work station will be at the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife Field Headquarters in Westborough. Field activities will be conducted throughout the state and will be in cooperation with Field Headquarters and District staff. MassWildlife's Angler Education Program seasonals are involved in a number of activities associated with angling outreach programs including: weekday family fishing clinics, weekend family fishing festivals, adult only fishing classes, and routine equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching two-hour "learn to fish" clinics to various groups around the state
  • Providing hands-on fishing instruction and support to students of all ages and abilities
  • Assisting with collecting student information, registering students for learn-to-fish classes, and performing basic class data entry
  • Assisting the Angler Education Coordinator with weekend family fishing festivals
  • Assisting the Angler Education Coordinator with adult learn-to-fish classes
  • Working with and, at times, supervising volunteer instructors
  • Delivering or retrieving program equipment from various locations statewide
  • Maintaining program equipment
  • Various other tasks associated with MassWildlife's outdoor education and skills programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience with various freshwater fishing skills and techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Possess a current driver's license and the ability to operate larger trucks and vans
  • A Massachusetts Class D driver's license or equivalent and an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to tow a larger box trailer
  • Willingness to work outdoors in and around water in most weather conditions
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Ability to take instruction and deal tactfully with others
  • Basic computer skills - Microsoft Word/Excel
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to work with both adults and children
  • Basic knowledge of aquatic/fisheries ecology
  • Basic knowledge of wildlife ecology
  • Ability to speak Spanish, at least conversationally preferred

Daily working hours will not be the standard 9 am to 5 pm and may include early morning, late evening, and weekend work. Applicant must have their own transportation to travel to and from work. A state vehicle will be provided for all work-related activities. No housing is offered with this position.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT - Not to exceed 13 weeks. Up to 40 hours/week. Target start date: June 2, 2025. $20.00/hour.
