Mission Statement:

The Massachusetts Department of Correction's mission is to promote public safety by managing offenders while providing care and appropriate programming in preparation for successful reentry into the community. Manage - Care - Program - Prepare

The Department of Correction Fall Paid Internship Program promotes an accessible and equitable pathway, seeking diverse undergraduate, graduate and specialized skilled trained students interested in pursuing a rewarding career in public safety, criminal justice, and homeland security.

Program Overview:

The Department of Correction is offering an exciting professional work experience for students who are enrolled in a trade school, college and or university. The paid internship program is an in-person internship. The program is designed to provide students with professional exposure to a variety of departments/programs within the Department of Correction. This program is designed to provide interns with a wide array of public safety and criminal justice policy matters including but not limited to:

Applicant Requirements:

Must be able to attend a full week of paid New Employee Orientation August 11 - 15, 2025.

Start date will be September 8, 2025. 8 Hours per week.

• Must be enrolled in a college, university, or trade school

• Students hired within the internship program must pass a CORI background check, and may be subject to fingerprinting

• Minimal in-state travel may be required and will vary by position

Additional Information

The internship program will run from August 10, 2025, through approximately December 13, 2025. Students will be compensated based on their educational program level. Applications and documents must be submitted by April 25, 2025.

Comments:

Applicants must have no felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609. The Massachusetts Department of Correction shall not hire anyone who may have direct contact with offenders, who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. The agency shall consider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hire anyone who may have contact with offenders or residents. The DOC urges bi-lingual applicants to apply.
