Boeing is seeking a Boring Machine Operator to join our team in Portland, OR.

Machinists in this position set up, operate and adjust conventional and CNC boring machines to rough out and finish precision holes in close tolerance, high quality machined parts from various types of material.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Check machine to be used for missing, loose, or damaged equipment. Check oil and coolant levels and initiate maintenance service and/or repair ticket, as required.
  • Identify type of set-up required.
  • Prepare to set-up job (e.g., production orders, first lots and tool tryouts) or run previously set-up job by reviewing work order, tie-in sheets, operator's or setup documents, blueprints or CATIA plots.
  • Ensure that correct material (e.g., type, size, quantity) and tools or fixtures were issued and are free from visible defects.
  • Perform layout work, as required.
  • Edit speeds and feeds for machining programs within established guidelines for developmental work or MTO's, as required.
  • Continue progress on in-work job and ensure safe working conditions, as required.
  • Select machine accessories and holding devices per manufacturing plan. Verify apparatus is in good condition. Identify fixtures, shop aids, or templates to be used and fabricate shop aids, as required.
  • Attach machine accessories, tools, fixtures (e.g. coolant lines, air nozzles), workpiece, shop aids and gears using dial indicators, wrenches, bolts, clamps and overhead cranes.
  • Retrieve and download CNC programs to machine controller using computing equipment and downloading from various servers/data bases, as required.
  • Select and check cutting tools using preset machine per program or CNC documents. Ensure cutters are the correct type, length, diameter, radius and are in good condition.
  • Load and unload cutters following program information or set-up documents, using tool holders, hand tools (e.g., wrenches, mallets, spanners).
  • Set machine coordinates or index points per CNC documents, including cutter offset/compensations using controller keyboard, dial indicator, probes, shims and edge finders.
  • Run machine to perform milling operations (e.g., boring, drilling, reaming, tapping, spot facing).
  • Adjust machine settings (e.g., speeds and feeds) to correct machining problems or to prepare machine for next operation in sequence.
  • Check work after completion of each operation in job and/or completed job to ensure parts are complete per drawing and that there are no defects.
  • Remove all sharp edges from part with deburring tool and/or file, as required.
  • Submit completed job or in-process checks to layout or inspector at appropriate steps in sequence.
  • Perform rework per engineering instructions, as required (i.e., pull and open discrepant holes).
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials (e.g. coolants, solvents) in approved manner per Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) using personal protective equipment, as required.
  • Maintain personal and tool certifications, as required.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Relocation:

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Shift:

This is a 2nd shift position.
