Job Summary

This position evaluates, develops, implements and oversees Compliance activities for the AES Ohio Transmission System in order to keep AES Ohio in compliance with the North American Electric Reliability Corp (NERC) and PJM, a regional transmission organization.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Leads and performs NERC assignments in specialized areas requiring NERC and PJM Protection and Control (P&C) Standards and Requirements.
  • Works with engineering/operations staff to draft reliability standard audit worksheets (RSAW), NERC/PJM standard evidence development and tracking, on time responses to data requests and RFIs, and internal control development and testing.
  • Leads projects and performs engineering tasks associated with critical or analytical engineering concentrated on NERC/PJM requirements. Possess specialized knowledge in P&C systems associated with transmission and substation, including field testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and peer review.
  • Plans, writes, and performs tasks for documentation deliverables and projects associated with the NERC/PJM requirements.
  • Conducts on-site P&C compliance reviews, attends meetings/conference calls, and monitors performance to accomplish committed results.
  • Performs assignments while acting independently and ability to lead multi-discipline teams, including providing direct oversight of contractors.
  • Provides recommendations to management and implements action plans to improve performance and internal controls.
  • Provides detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to others.
  • Participates in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in areas of company interest and make recommendations for business decisions regarding strategy for new technologies/Standards and/or engineering techniques and tools to enhance the NERC/PJM program.


  • Review one-line diagrams, elementary drawings, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts associated with protection, metering, controls, and communications for alignment with NERC and PJM requirements.
  • Conduct audits and peer reviews to check adherence to NERC/PJM standards, and application guides. Preparation of QA checklists and reports for compliance with document control policies.
  • Provide technical engineering support to field construction, testing, and commissioning crews concerning NERC/PJM requirements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert; provide technical training, instruction, and guidance for the NERC/PJM requirements with AES personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Electrical Engineering degree or knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices.
  • Knowledge and ability to clearly interpret the NERC/PJM requirements for protection system standards.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem-solving approaches and engineering theory.
  • Proficient in print reading. Ability to understand wiring diagrams, drawings and schematics.
  • 5+ years of professional engineering experience and a thorough knowledge and experience in unique areas of engineering expertise.
